US Supreme Court strikes down voting rights act clause

Fenton, the GOP has cornered the stupid vote. So no worries there. False
narratives? Hardly my friend. People do want jobs, and while neither party has done nearly enough to create them (and Republicans have done what they can to prevent the President from succeeding in creating them), it's the GOP that has voted almost 40 times to kill ACA (at $2 million a shot and knowing full well they can't do it), instead of coming up with jobs bills. And, yes, Dems are moving to TX and they and other demographic changes may just turn TX into a Blue state ... not alas, but rather at last ...

LOL !!

Go on youtube, type in " ObamaVoters" and see what kind of brainless easily entertained, easily manipulated numbskull pops up.

Lol..thats the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

How stupjd do you have to be to fall for all of the generic platitudes and bumper sticker slogans of his 2008 Camapign ?

Pretty dumb. Now how stupid do you have to be to vote for him again ? Wow is right..( you said wow, I know you did )

And there are nearly 40 jobs bills sitting in the Senate from the House waiting for a vote they will never get.

Do you really have the authority to judge who's stupid and who's not if you didn't even know that ?

Oh and Democrats are moving here BECAUSE their plague blue states were torn down due to the " genius" of Democrat Policies.

Don't worry about Texas, now we can create new voter laws that will keep the crooks out

We only want to protect the 14th amendment rights of voters in 15 states? Hardly seems fair to people in the other 35.

I think the idea was that by making those adjustments legally for 15 states, the rights of the people living there were brought in with rights already enjoyed by those living in the other 35.

Why is the government refusing to follow the ND model where concentrating on domestic energy has resulted in an economic boom to the state and now has even Walmart competing for employees to the tune of $17/hr starting wages? There are a number of areas where the government can encourage economic growth without spending a dime to do so...

Good afternoon bj. I trust the wedding went well..

our government has become virtually dysfunctional Paul ... $17 starting wage? Where can I read up on that Paul? I gotta send it to organizer friends who are doing research on Wal-Mart ..

the wedding went very well, and the celebration afterwards even better (although my son got into a car accident the night before -- the car was hurt, but none of the human beings were), despite the occasional bigoted remarks by one of the bride's grandfathers and a couple of other members of the extended family ... but ya wouda been proud of me Paul ... I just smiled and kept telling myself -- it's my son's and his bride's day ...

my friend, you really need to bone up on american government, we have 3 equal branches of government .

Separation of powers is a political doctrine originating in the writings of Montesquieu in The Spirit of the Laws where he urged for a constitutional government with three separate branches of government. Each of the three branches would have defined powers to check the powers of the other branches. This idea was called separation of powers. This philosophy heavily influenced the writing of the United States Constitution, according to which the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches of the United States government are kept distinct in order to prevent abuse of power. This United States form of separation of powers is associated with a system of checks and balances.

I'm well familiar with the system of checks and balances. I understand they are three integral parts designed to produce a sound whole. I simply refuse to regard three branches that are inherently fundamentally different from one another as equal.

The people who took part in the Selma to Montgomery voting rights march would laugh at you for thinking that the voting rights act was passed in 2006.

it was renewed in 2006, congress voted to renew the authorization of the voting rights act.

They are not in any way equal. Membership / election go by entirely different methods, and their respective jurisdictions or functions are not equal.

i will put it this way, ..CAN congress order the the executive branch to do something...no

can the president order the legislative to do something......no

can they order the judicial to do something ...no

The rights of those living in the 15 states were already the same as those in the other 35. Perhaps you have data that suggests otherwise?

Google is your friend. Use "Walmart starting wages in ND" as a beginning. The top result will answer any question you may have...

Glad to hear about the wedding and that you behaved. Car damaged is little to worry over...

Actually yes, if Congress gets a supermajority together, they can pass a law on their own directing the Executive branch to take certain action, or narrowing a Judge's authority in certain matters.

why is it becuase of this USSC decision,....there are people now saying the court is dysfunctional.

the court has not been rendering decisions based on the constitution what it says... before you and i where even born, ....decisions are based now on personal agendas.

How many non-democrats/socialists voted in favor of the stimulus? To infer that it was in some way bi-partisan is being a bit disingenuous...

I thought that the Economic Stimulus act of 2008 was signed by Bush ... No?

I could care less about the court -- I'm looking for consistency from conservatives who will laud this decision, which was not made on Constitutional grounds.

I thought that the Economic Stimulus act of 2008 was signed by Bush ... No?

The reference was to the Obama stimulus of 2009 totaling ~$800B or more, not the small tax credit done by Bush which did absolutely nothing to stave off the upcoming recession...

LOL ... caught yourself just in time, didn't you? "Don't worry about Texas, now we can create new voter laws that will keep the crooks out." I bet you meant to say "them minorities out," didn't you? Come Fenton, you can tell me. I won't tell anyone.

Jobs bills? LOL ... read this Fenton (it saves me some time) - Republican Jobs Bills Won't Actually Create Jobs, Say Economists

Actually yes, if Congress gets a supermajority together, they can pass a law on their own directing the Executive branch to take certain action, or narrowing a Judge's authority in certain matters.

here is what you are stating and it is correct.

A presidential veto is the rejection of a bill passed by the majority votes of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. While Congress can vote to override a presidential veto, causing the bill to become law without the president's approval, this is rarely done. More often than not, the threat of presidential veto is sufficient motivation for Congress to modify the bill prior to its final passage. This article provides a brief overview of procedures involved in vetoing a bill and the ways Congress can respond to a presidential veto.

however the president sets policy and he can under that policy execute the law in a fashion he desires....example:

our 1924 immigration laws states that every single illegal alien must see an immigration judge, and that judge will determine if the person is deported or stays in the us.

under obama, he with his policies have by-passed the judge part, and state" that any illegal who has not committed a crime", shall be able to stay in america........and that's what they are doing, .............while waiting for amnesty...the new immigration bill to pass congress.

a stimulus bill nonetheless, no? same idea ... gov't helping out -- simply wasn't nearly big enough ... still, despite all of the GOP obstructionism, the economy is making its way back ...

The economy is making its way back due to gridlock and having no new budget passed in the last four (going on five) years where continuing resolutions are the flavor de jour...

Good afternoon, windowdressing! :2wave:

Congratulations on getting a new daughter, my friend! Best wishes to all of you! :peace:

I could care less about the court -- I'm looking for consistency from conservatives who will laud this decision, which was not made on Constitutional grounds.

sounds to me your mad at conservatives.

so i guess, if the court had ruled the other way, which is the way liberals wanted it to be...it would be ok?.......and the court would be just in your eyes?

Right... reauthorization is essentially new legislation and that's what was deemed unconstitutional. So we can do away with the "they discarded the law because they decided it was no longer relevant" arguments.
