Supreme Court strikes down Arizona voter ID citizenship law

Imagine if you were born at home 60 years ago and didnt get a ss number. It is very hard to get these things done and far more expensive than $10

Including gas money, we spent close to $50.00 to get my wife's. And that doesn't account for all the time we spent either. I ended up missing 2 days of work, on top of it, during that period.

Well then if you missed work the wages you didnt get should be added to cost.

Explaining the realities of life.

It isnt just $10. It is expensive and takes many hours of effort.

And the realities of life is somehow nearly everyone manages to get it done anyway. Peopel have jobs, families, bills, and yet we somehow make it to the DMV to get an ID. Yet your basically saying because some person claims they cant, then we cant require them to prove their identity when they vote? That is the tyranny of the minority.

I am saying that if the hospital doesnt do it when you are an infant that it is expensive and time consuming.

Not easy or $10.

Also, what id did People in the Founders time use?

Whatever they felt was neccesary and legal.

I don't even comprehend how anyone in their right mind could defend NOT supporting a voter ID law.

Of course the same people who don't support the law would certainly supports laws for ID'ing people for energy drinks (possibly soda), smokes, alcohol etc... The kicker is an individual has to be 18+ to buy those products just like an individual has to be 18+ to vote.

Hell, my own damn baby brother has to (BY LAW NONE THE LESS) ID me when I go to the store where he works to buy smokes or beer... If he doesn't the store could face a fine and he can be fired despite the fact I'm obviously over 21. But people can just walk in a vote without showing an ID - all the while voter fraud is an epidemic.

What the hell.

13 million citizens do not have documentary proof of their citizenship.

and we have 11 million illegals(give or take two million) in this country, imagine that?

Its a poll tax is the point.

I think youre going outside of the spirit and literal meaning of that amendment. A poll tax is a literal tax the excercise of voting. Whereas this is a legal requirement to vote, no different than any other regulation. However, I have no issue with attaching a photo to the free voter registration card thats alredy handed out.

It costs a lot of money so its a poll tax.

No, not a poll tax and for several reasons, chief among them the ID is required for many other things in this life. Not to mention, every state I know of offers them free to indigents.

What is troublesome about this decision is that SCOTUS found that the application has wording that covers the citizenship question. If you check a box and read the disclaimer that if you are falsifying the application you can be prosecuted. Well BIG WUP! Do you think an illegal trying to register would fill out the form without lying??? It is logical to request and/or require PROOF!!!

Not free. ID is hard to get and expensive particularly if you have never had one before.

A poll tax is illegal. Forcing citizens to buy id to vote is a poll tax.

You need to be registered before you can vote. You don't register at the polls usually. The basic question becomes, should anyone be allowed to vote in our election process just because they "state" they are a citizen on a form...

Well is thay how we do it now and have for hundreds of years? If it is then yes.
