Grandma, 72, shoots at home intruder in California, defends actions

Conspiracy: I would also argue that when the dollar collapses (mathematical certainty) they want us disarmed for easier population control.

Beyond that they want a servile population whose God is the state, which an armed populace won't accept.

I don't know about the conspiracy aspect, but yes it would make for easier population control. I think it is however not a governmental conspiracy, just a side affect of those wanting no guns.

If she made a mistake, it was in not emptying her gun, in my opinion. I wouldn't have had the confidence she did that my one shot would stop him.

No. Actually controlled fire is always a better option that "unloading the farm" on an attacker. The chances of hitting a bystander go up and your accuracy goes down with the "spray and pray" mentality. It also looks much worse in court for you to just hose down an area rather than being able to show controlled, thoughful action.

Her mistake was missing the target.

Yes, I would agree. The primary reasoning is something I formerly subscribed to: guns are bad, there is no reason for them.

Reality sunk in as I grew up though :) Criminals WILL have guns regardless.

The conspiracy part is more like 'logical deduction' using current events and history. (and the dollar collapse is a certainty, given the printing / economic disparity / rise of cheap labor)

As if she had to defend her actions:

Sans her gun, we'd be reading a very different story about Gram and her 85-year-old husband.

If we're going to report horror stories, we need to report when the good guys win. Thoughts?

I think she did right! Nothing wrong with protecting herself and her husband who uses a wheelchair.

Does it not stand to reason that liberals wanted her and her husband to die?

I mean, I feel like I'm constantly reading liberals accusing conservatives of wanting children to die because they support the Second Amendment. Shouldn't the opposite be true?

Your argument is just as silly as the argument that you claim you have heard liberals make. Both of them are ridiculous.

Hell yeah! Go granny, GO!

(But she could use a little target practice if you ask me.)

To balance the books, and to meet court mandates to relieve overcrowding, Governor Brown has forced the transfer of crimminals from state prisons to county prisons. Already suffering significant budget deficits, the counties have been releasing hardcore criminals back onto the streets.

The bottom line is that preserve the pay and benefits of public employees, and to do a smoke and mirror job on the budget deficits, liberal/progressives who control the state prefer felons be on the street, rather than have citizens protected.

You are so wrong it isn't even funny. Hard core criminals are not beling released to the streets due to preserving the pay and benefits of public employees...that is just plain and simply a ridiculous statement that overlooks the effects that California initiatives have had on our prisons. The main reason that our prisons have become so overcrowded in California is due to the implementation of the 3X law. California took a huge step forward in aleviating the problems that it created, when last November the voters voted for a modification of the 3X law. There is currently a proposal before the legislature to make simple drug possession a "wobbler" which means it could be charged as a felony or misdemeanor. Currently, with the exception of MJ, simply possession is a straight felony. The vast majority of people in prison are there, not a violent and/or serious offenses, but rather on minor offenses like drug offenses. Passing the legislation is both smart and will be further effective in bringing down the prison population. It also has the effect of ensuring that repeat offenders, including repeat drug offender can continue to receive state prison sentences that can actually be served.

Actually, I am so right it's not funny. However, I appreciate your agenda based take on the matter.

Fact are facts:

California Now Freeing Violent Inmates To Save Money

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Inmates convicted of violent crimes are among those being freed early from California jails to save money, despite lawmakers' promises that they would exclude most dangerous prisoners and sex offenders.

you know what i can not understand is, the man, is containing to break into the house, even though the home owner it alerted to his present, and the dog is barking feverishly.

you would think the man, would get the hell out of there before the gun was fired.

It might be silly but it's still a commonly made allegation against conservatives.

The article that you linked doesn't even come close to support the ridiculous claims you made in your previous post. Prisoners are not being released due to high public employee pensions etc...that it a ridiculous claim. Prisoners are being released due to overcrowding that has occurred directly as a result of the implementation of the 3X law. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the exponential growth in prison population since the implementation of the law. That is exactly why efforts are being made to modify the law. Also, the article states that violent offenders are SOME among the 1800 prisoners released by the early release program, not exactly the claim of the headline or the argument that you are floundering to make.
You are right about one thing.....facts are facts. Its simply that the facts don't support your assertions.

I've never heard that allegation made against conservatives....and I'll say it again.....it is is made, it is just as silly as your contention. Both are statements made by people trying to politicize the issue and failing poorly in their attempt.

I firmly believe this man (who lived in a half-way house nearby) targeted this elderly family -- because I agree with you. Continuing in the face of a big-assed barking dog makes no sense.

My first instinct is to commend this women and her not only owning but using a gun to defend herself. Then I think, what if I lived next door and someone was shooting wildly at a potential intruder. JMO but most people should have shotguns for home defense in urban settings, you have a better chance of hitting your target and not hitting someone in bed next door.

Of couse you think that. You are welcome to your fantasy.

I understand you want to excuse those busted for breaking the law, even though they knew 3X and you're out. Radical libs have many excuses for stupidity.

However, the fact are the prisons are overcrowded because the state can't afford to build more because they have been running massive deficits. The state can't afford to house them, so to balance the budget and pretend they are fiscally responsible, ProgLibs in Sacramento shipped criminals out to the counties, who suffer from the same public employee union scams. The counties have no choice but to sick the criminals on the innocent public.

That's a fact.

Toke it up for all I care, but all you're doing is drowning your opinion in bong water.

And not just any big-assed dog...a freaking Rottweiler!

People make a big deal out of pit bulls, but most of them are pretty friendly. If a burglar breaks in, they're just as likely to show the intruder where the good stuff is.

Rotties, on the other hand, are known for being protective and territorial.

Typical of your ilk....when you don't have the facts to support your assertions you resort to ridiculous arguments and personal attacks. No one is making excuses for those busted for breaking the law...but politicians and the ignorant voter love laws that sound like "tough justice" rather than being smart about the issues and spending money wisely. You guys always talk about "building more prisons" is the answer. That is exactly the kind of dumb justice that costs the tax payers millions of millions of dollars and gets us nowhere.
Does it make sense that someone who is in possession of a $5 rock of cocaine is taking up space in a prison causing the early release of other more serious criminals? The typical "conservative" answer is "well....build more prisons....employee more prison guards and staff and we'll get the money somewhere". Don't you understand how foolish that is?

about two years ago this similar situation happened to my next door neighbor....except she was a single mom with a 15 year old daughter (not home at the time)....a guy tried to get in the front door about 2 a.m. and she got 911 on the phone....he jumped a fence and went to the back of the house where she had 4 dogs...two large ones (one pit one collie mix) and two ankle biters..., the large ones i had always thought to be right protective but all they did was bark very aggressivly..(i heard them on the 911 tape later)....he went in through the kitchen window and she ran to the bedroom..he followed and she warned him to stop and put one 9mm round in his thigh....he stopped briefly screamed and then charged her...she put two in his chest...game over......he lived close by and sexual assault was believed to be his motive...

Ilk?

Got to love how quaint ProgLibs are.

Can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Nothing you've written changes the facts. The state doesn't have the money because their spending is off the charts. The latest estimates I've seen indicate there is close to $500 billion in unfunded public employee pension liabilities on the books. Further, the taxpayer is required to make up for deficits in the payout of benefits to public employees. Have you seen how much taxpayers have had to fork over to cover CalPers and other public employee union investment losses?

I couldn't care less about those who are too stupid to stay out of jail. The fact is the ProgLibs fix is early release of violent criminals in order to keep paying out public employee union pay and benefits.

Did you see this from a week ago?

State workers want their cut of tax hike Page 1 of 2 | UTSanDiego.com

State labor groups are insisting that Gov. Jerry Brown return their robust support of his successful tax-hike initiative in November by rewarding them with pay increases.

Proposition 30, which boosted sales and incomes taxes, was sold to voters as a remedy for ailing schools, but state employee unions made it clear at a rally Wednesday that they expect to share in the $6 billion bounty.

So the beat goes on. Tax the rich, harm the poor, and drive the state into the ground. And you want to rule the country? How you going to hide what you've done to California?

If this incident were have had happened across the "Orange Curtain" in Los Angeles County, grandma would have had the handcuffs slapped on her and would have at least spent the night in jail and the liberal D.A. would have at the minimum filed charges of discharging a firearm with in the city limits.

That's why I live in the last bastion of conservatives in California, Orange County where your allowed to exercise your Constitutional rights and are allowed to protective yourself, family and property and aren't forced to depend on government and a cell phone.

The state doesn't have the money because their spending is off the charts.

LOL....so your answer is the typical so called "Conservative" solution....propose spending millions more tax payer dollars building more prisons and employing more prison guards.

Gotta love that Conservative logic.....

Care to back up that bold faced lie with an example of someone in Los Angeles recently who defended his home against a burglar who was arrested and charged?

So allowing people to die is the answer?

Gee, you ProgLibs have interesting views on compassion.

I don't remember the exact number, but I believe Texas spends about 1/4 the amount per prisoner as California does.

Wonder why that is?
