Is it true that he has now applied to Russia for "political asylum"?

Don't know, but if so we will never know the truth - or ever see him again.

    Venezuela offers Snowden asylum

MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) — Presidents Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua and Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela said Friday they were willing to grant asylum to NSA leaker Edward Snowden.

Snowden has asked for asylum in several countries, including Nicaragua and Venezuela.

"As head of state, the government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela decided to offer humanitarian asylum to the young American Edward Snowden so that he can live (without) … persecution from the empire," Maduro said, referring to the United States. He made the offer during a speech marking the anniversary of Venezuela's independence. It was not immediately clear if there were any conditions to Venezuela's offer.

In Nicaragua, Ortega said he was willing to make the same offer "if circumstances allow it." Ortega didn't say what the right circumstances would be when he spoke during a speech in Managua.

He said the Nicaraguan embassy in Moscow received Snowden's application for asylum and that it is studying the request.

"We have the sovereign right to help a person who felt remorse after finding out how the United States was using technology to spy on the whole world, and especially its European allies," Ortega said.

The offers came amid the ongoing flap about the rerouting of Bolivian President Evo Morales' plane in Europe earlier this week amid reports that Snowden might have been aboard.

It was outrageous that the Bolivian president's plane was diverted and searched. Can you imagine if Austria had done something like that to the Air Force One??? The U.S. is making fools of the Europeans, and they don't even realize it.

watch Daniel Wellsberg make a spot spot on explanation for the reasonableness of Snowden's disclosures as a whistleblower:

how can the executive possess all of the privileged information and not be tempted to use it to achieve the administration's purposes
and now that administration objects to that possibility and means and motivation being exposed. so much for transparancy

Putin and Obama want to maintain a semblance of partnership. Snowden - there is a problem in the relations between the two countries. Putin could to do so Snowden gave political asylum to South Ossetia (which the U.S. government did not recognize). To write a request to South Ossetia send in the U.S. Snowden, the United States should establish diplomatic relations to the country or leave alone Snowden.

Frankly, I wonder if Booz Allen should take him out. The damage is already done to the U.S.G., so it really has nothing to gain. But Booz Allen has a vested interest in demonstrating that it will clean up its own messes.

Which would also be extreme overreach. You believe some of the most irresponsible things. Irresponsible because they foster and enable tyranny.
