Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily [W:452]

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Oh *shew* That makes it all better.

Point being (I can't believe I have to say this) that there is no alternative on this matter. If a plausible alternative were offered we could compare Obama to a better one.

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

*yawn*

If you're surprised this has happened, you obviously haven't been paying attention since 2001. And people who try to make this a Democrat vs. Republican thing will be wrong.

I heard recently that I'll probably be getting a raise in my teacher's salary for next year.

Seriously, spin that, Obama haters.

So that is yet another cabinet level office that you claim Obama had no control over?
Only fools and partisan sheep think the President is omniscient.

I would ask you not apply for either label.

I've been a member of this site with 4 months, so what the f**k do you know?

Judging from the partisanship of your OP, it's not a stretch to think you've given the Bush Administration a big pass on this. Or, you simply did not know that this has been going on for some time, and are not completely deflated because it's one less false outrage against Obama in your playbook.

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Seriously.... you really think that this did not start under the last guy?

So this has been going on since Bush it's OK for it to keep going on? What happened to the "change"?

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Guess it's time to really make use of the 'family' plan and switch around phones on a regular basis. That will screw them up though my teenagers friends might be suprised at the text answers they get!

No, but complaining about it now, when we know that Bush and his lack of legality with warrantless wiretaps.. kinda hypocritical no? After all it was the people you elected that put in the laws and rules that allows this crap.. and yet you blame Obama (and not Bush...) for using the laws that the GOP and Dems both agreed on after 9/11?

Plus bet this went on under Clinton and before, just not in the same scale since the technology has changed so much.

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Yes, Bush was president and Bush signed the PATRIOT Act. But before Bush signed it, the Senate approved the Act 98-1, and the House approved the Act 357-66.

Blame is wide-spread.

I don't disagree. Few did their homework--and no doubt--fear won over common sense. If there's anoyone to blame, perhaps the finger should be pointed towards Osama Bin Laden. Looks like he accomplished his goals.

I'm all for it. I think government should also collect every email sent over the wires.

Government knows what's best for us. That's why we have government--to take care of us.

Obama has doubled down on the Bush pat act that libs were in such an uproar over. Now they are suddenly just fine with this. After the IRS thing I feel confident that Obama will not misuse all this info he has been gathering on us though, no worries.

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Seriously? This is old ****ing news. Where was your outrage during the Bush years?

And where's your outrage now? I don't remember you being a silent observer or critic regarding survellience during the Bush years.

Seriously.... you really think that this did not start under the last guy?

Nope. But basically shrugging it off and not making any serious condemnation about it now when you routinely used these type of things as a means for attacking bush...Kind of hypocritical, no?

It's funny...you both want to point fingers and go "HYPOCRITES"...yet at the same breath, if Bush was still in office and this came out I HIGHLY doubt you'd be spending the entire thread barely speaking an ounce of condemnation or disdain upon the program and those doing it. But yes, yes...you two are SHINING examples of calling out Hypocrites with your actions in this thread.

As to this particular issue, would need to know more to really get a good grasp on it. WE've been marching forever onward past the Security/Liberty tipping point, and while some things have been done in terms of rebalancing the issue I wonder if some of it's not going fast enough. Still, ultimately, I'd take some unfortunate situations like this as collateral damage as things are systematically stripped away over the 10 step backs move of a full repeal.

In theory, the hope would be that someone akin to Obama's ideology along with a strong Democratic hold at a point in Congress would've resulted in some of the peel back of things more than it has. However, perhaps the GWB warning to the candidates to not speak so certainly on what they'd do with terrorism because they don't have a full understanding of it yet was a sincere one...which would explain why Obama's largely shocked me in many ways concerning his actions, if not words, in terms of this kind of stuff.

The individual instance may deserve condemnation, but I'd be ill pressed to toss it out on a significant scale with what little we seem to know about the program. What's it's purpose, how it's targetted, etc. How different is it from something like ECHELON (a wonderful program highlighting the idiocy of the notion of "I'm just going to question your sincerity because your guy did it first!" When it comes to survellience, there was always a guy before in some fashion)

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

Im seriously considering switch from Verizon because of this. I cant change govt, but I can at least stop paying their enablers.

You think they haven't/won't ask all the other carriers for the same information?

Re: Revealed: NSA collecting phone records of millions of Americans daily

What did Romney say that shows he was against this?
Equally important... what did Michael Jackson think about this?

Alas, he's not longer here to tell us.
