Roy Hibbert Uses Gay Slur in Post Game Press Conference

Gay guys in their loving partnered relationship?

That could be what the left means when they refer to the Tea Party as 'Teabaggers' but they often inexplicably giggle when they say it. That makes me skeptical of your suggestion. :)

Shhh....people enjoy sweeping under the rug that they didn't actually bother to figure out what the person said and then continue on about "insulting people", because it's much more fun to get riled up over faux outrage than actually realize "Well crap, there's not much here to be offended about" and have to stop arguing. Because for some people it's not about getting information HORRIBLY wrong, it's not about making stupid accusations that aren't grounded in any kind of reality, it's all about just arguing with those they find distasteful.

He used a somewhat commonly used comedic phrase about no specific person what so ever, save for possibly himself, as a throw away thing at the end of a sentence and people got up in arms. The more troubling statement, from a business perspective, was likely his "mother****ers" statement but that's not getting attention because again...it's not about what happened, it's not about facts, it's not about any kind of principle, it's everything to do with two sides having utter and complete hatred and distaste for each other and simply using this as another reason to throw bombs at each other.

I'm discovering that from my experiences here. Some take partisanship to a whole new level. To steal and paraphrase from another poster, some refuse to let a fact screw up a good anger.

I agree that the expression he used was a throw away thing at the end of a sentence. He probably said it out of habit without thinking. Also agree that the MF bomb is what should be the big issue here.

Good point, and there are probably a lot of people having a rethink on their first reaction.

Well...you know...one HAS to assme that every teabaggER has a teabaggEE. Maybe the ones that giggle are nicknamed "teacup'?

Not disputing that but it is just an expression. When you use the expression "rule of thumb" are you condoning wife beating as long as as the stick you use isn't thicker than your thumb? And many hetero folks would consider being mistaken as gay a bad thing. Especially the homophobes. Oops theres that H word again. I just don't think his intention was to insult. He just chose to use the term at a very bad time.

It seems similar to how people use the term "gay" to mean bad or cheesy. To the speaker it may be just a slang word, and there may be no malicious intent, but it reinforces the idea that gay is bad for the people who hear it. Its useful to analyze how the language we use alters how society perceives different characteristics.

That's not a slur... How ridiculous.

I will agree with you that it was unprofessional. The fine was entirely too steep though IMO. Many Americans would be happy to earn that in a year.

He makes over 13 MILLION a year according to online sports stats sites, how many of us wish we made that! I suck at math but I figure 75K is 1/2 of 1% of his base pay. do you think he even noticed the fine?
