Sickening. Some give all, sigh. Times have been tougher than usual lately for Texas firefighters and rescue personnel--Bryan, West, and now Houston. The Bryan firefighters were released today from the Blocker Burn Unit in Galveston, and thank heavens those in Houston who are critically injured are so close.

I was there, just after the fire began. The way it went up before the fire department got there tells me that, in addition to the wind whipping the blaze into a frenzy, there had to be multiple code violations in that building. The building itself is quite old, so any new codes would have been grandfathered in, leaving the owners of that building off the hook for improving the place. I played a gig in that building about 12 years ago, for a racing association awards ceremony.

I am heartbroken to hear that. What a tragedy.

Firemen are just a different breed.

Most heartfelt and grateful condolences to the families and loves ones. Just awful news.

Just arrived in Spring (north of Houston) and heard the news, and with all the tornado coverage, it won't get its just coverage nationally.

That's okay, though. There's only so much news-bombardment folks can take.

What matters is that every first-responder in this country knows. And some right this very minute are doing the work that killed their brothers. Hope the ones in Oklahoma are okay.

One was a young woman 24 yrs. young another 29 years young, four gone forever. If you want to help their families please donate to the 100Club.org "Survivors" fund-Houston TX. This is the worst in Houston history. Apparently they went inside and the roof later collapsed on them. What kind of person makes a living saving others-100 % of the residents got out. Please help their survivors with any kind of donation.

Re: Huge Fire in Southwest Houston

A couple of years ago, two thieves tried to crack a McDonalds Safe with a Oxy/Acety rig ( torch ) and wound up setting the building on fire.

It was after hours so the place was closed. Two Houston Fire Fighters lost their lives when the building collapsed on them.

One was a female, one Firefighter that died yesterday was a female.

I've never approved of Women Firefighters but whats more important is the lesson the HFD should have learned from the McDonalds Fire was ignored.

A couple of other issues were ignored too.
