Obama and Gov. Christie Reunite to Tour Sandy Rebuilding Efforts

These days it's amazing to see a Republican Governor and a Democratic President work so well together. Earlier today I heard Governor Christie say he's not worried about the politics, he just wants to get New Jersey back again. The the way it should be. At this point Gov. Christie appears to be a shoe-in for reelection. He will be perfect poised to run for president in 2016. As conservative governor from a blue state, he may have what it takes to win. The real question is will he be able to get the nomination?

    May 28, 2013
Seven months after they made political waves touring the damaged New Jersey coastline together, President Obama and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie reunited on the Jersey Shore as the president assessed the recovery and rebuilding efforts of the beach communities devastated by Superstorm Sandy.

"We're still rebuilding after Sandy. Now, we all understand that there is still a lot of work to be done," the president said before a crowd of 3,800 at the Asbury Park Convention Hall in Asbury Park, N.J. "There are homes to rebuild, there are businesses to reopen, there are landmarks and beaches and boardwalks that aren't all the way back yet -- but thanks to the hard work of an awful lot of people, we've got wonderful shops and restaurants and arcades that are opening their doors. And I saw what thousands of Americans saw over Memorial Day weekend. You are stronger than the storm."

Of course, the right-wingers will still be mad that Obama said people are working hard... somehow, they'll manage it.

Re: Obama and Gov. Christie Reunite to Tour Sandy Rebuilding Efforts

Seeing presidents/governors/elected officials from different political parties coming together didn't used to be such a startling, surprising big deal. It happened all the time. Then again, using tragedy as a political tool used to be an anomoly, soundly berated when it occurred. Nowadays, it seems to be such a commonly-accepted practice that some people are actually outraged when it doesn't happen. Pity, that.

Yeah, well when there are less laws, less fines, less intrusive government, lower taxes, etc. in New Jersey I may start believing that. Till then, a fat ass blowhard running his mouth to improve his political gain.

Though i understand obama does worry about his image, it is what every president has done. If there is a huge tragedy they go see it. Yes, it is technically for the purpose of looking like they care, but it isn't like this is a new thing in any way. Presidents show up at war memorials, and that would be politicizing a war. They all have to go to church or they will not be elected, and that is politicizing their faith.

there are tons of things to get on Obama about, but him doing the typical presidential sympathy for the victims of a disaster of record proportions is not one of them. Seriously, even if a president doesn't care at all, they should get off their ass and go see the effects of huge storms. Was GWB politicizing a tragedy when he went to and gave aid to Katrina victims? It is really their job, and getting on his back about that is just being petty. Even Chris Christie could be said to be milking the fame from this to further his career, but is it really something we should be faulting him for focusing on?

I remember that. But back in those days, our elected officals were Americans before they were Republicans and Democrats.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

Yes, presidents have always visited areas of the country struck by tragedy, and they have always been escorted through the area by highest-ranking local officials, regardless of party. Those officials were not, however, subjected to widespread criticism from their own party for the crime of actually being polite and appreciative.

The day after Obama was reelected, some republicans I know were saying they wouldn't vote for Christi because they think he made the president look too bipartisan.

Some.republicans think the hurricanes and Christi pushed Obama over Romney, so now they are angry at Christi.

I guess, from all reports,I still don't understand what the president did that deserved the overblown praise. Christie did not elect Obama, but he did go way overboard. Don't kid yourselves liberals. If a Republican potus,a week before the election, from the Democratic governor of a state, you would be in a furor.

LOL, the Sandy response efforts have been worse than those of Katrina.

My, how the storyline has changed among liberals.
