NBC: Holder OK'd Search Warrant For Fox News Reporter's Private Emails, Official Says

Re: NBC: Holder OK'd Search Warrant For Fox News Reporter's Private Emails, Official

Oh I know he doesn't care. It's my point.

It's the weak link in the ego of people like Holder and Obama, that they think this" end justifies the means "strategy and lying through your teeth everyday comes without consequence.

Your Bush blame is just desperate mitigation. Anything remotely comparable to these scandals under Bush would have resulted in impeachment months ago.

The IRS Commisioner showing up at the WH but never telling him about a CONCLUDED IRS investigation 6 months prior to the election, his "going to bed" while our Ambassador was being attacked.

Remember when you guys criticized him for the 7 minutes he took the react the the 9/11 attacks ??

Obama goes to sleep while our embassy is burning and you have no issue with that reaction.

Sorry, we just don't believe the BULL SH**.

Suddenly I am a democrat now? LOL.

Sorry, I just call them as I see therm. Holder is a yes man, but Gonzales seemed to have an agenda geared toward not complying with the law with impunity. Quite frankly, the FISA court issue was more egregious to me. I don't know who us guys are supposed to be since I am no apologist for Obama or his administration. I voted for the rich white guy.

It's worse than that, when Obama got that 3 AM phone call he cut the conversation short and ran to the bathroom and locked the door. He did not want to know nothing about nothing, so he hid in his ****ing bathroom.

I don't know what your problem is Fisher.

If you want to make logical paralells to the current scandals then be my guest. I repeat, anything remotely comparable to this happening under Bush would have either resulted in him stepping down for the good of the Country or he would have been forced out by a bunch of Republican cowards.

But nothing comparable happened, and the Democrats were forced to make sh** up because he was a honest and decent guy.

I do not recall people making sh*t up about Gonzales--the guy was a sleeze of a lawyer who trampled all over civil liberties by green-lighting doors being opened that should have never been opened. The USA PATRIOT ACT is about the most dangerous piece of legislation that has ever been enacted in this country and is ripe for abuse by anyone who sits in the WH, and the former AG did zero to slow the tide.

So we finally go after people with a warrant that leak classified information and it's a bad thing? WTF?

I don't give a damn who leaks classified information especially some FOX partisan hack. They should be ferreted out and punished severely.

First, your'e the partisan hack if you seruously think this was about a reporter leaking " classified information".

It was simply a opportunity for Holder to attack Fox. Notice no "reporters" were charged after the Wiki-leaks information OR no one was charged after the WH leaks of Obama terrorist killing tendencies.

Historically Govt's have gone after the leakers, not the press, who shoulf be allowed to protect their sources.

This has resonated even among the left wing reporters who agree Holder and Obama have crossed the line.

The worst of it is Holder is being allowed to investigate .....Holder.

Same Bull Sh** double standard.

Newsflash! It's usually someone in the press that has no problem releasing classified info for a story. Leaks get good people killed. No sympathy for leakers or someone in the media that facilitates leaks. I don't care who they work for whether it be the FAUX network, CNN, or what have you.

The vast majority of leaks are on purpose and done by the government.

Well, let's all hope that today isn't a "documents-dump" Friday.

I honestly don't think he's going to be allowed to. This is just too much.

Lets see the leak is from one of Obama's government employees. Yes that's right an Obama government employee is leaking classified information to the press. But Holder is so partisan same as you and Obama are, so rather than go after one of their own government employees who is the leakier, they attack a FOX new journalist. Of course FOX News is on the Obama hit list and has been for over 4 yrs now. But hey WTF

Re: NBC: Holder OK'd Search Warrant For Fox News Reporter's Private Emails, Official

Just came to me, but this can't be a Patriot Act thing can it? If the Atty General is approving the warrant, that's not the way it works with the PA. A FISA court approves the warrant. Does the DOJ legally have the power to issue warrants that fit all the conditions of a PA warrant?

Bradley Edward Manning (born December 17, 1987) is a United States Army soldier who was arrested in May 2010 in Iraq on suspicion of having passed classified material to the website WikiLeaks. He was ultimately charged with 22 offenses, including communicating national defense information to an unauthorized source and aiding the enemy.

Now you would think, the people under Obama would not leak classified material, but they do. That surly is not the fault of the press. When a government employee hands over classified material to anyone not authorized to have such material, it is not classified any more.

Re: NBC: Holder OK'd Search Warrant For Fox News Reporter's Private Emails, Official

At least they got the warrants so I guess we are progressing. Strange the press was never outraged when Bush was spying on everybody without even bothering with the warrants. Chickens, welcome home to the roost.

Funny how all these news people are so narcissitic. Obama can bash the heads and arrest OWS or any other protestor, spy on the activist groups but WHEN ITS THEM, THE CHICKENS__T news media - "Oh the outrage!"

And yeah Obama can torch any Arab, Muslim, Pakistani, Afghan, Yemeni peoples with airstrikes or mercenary bombers, and machine guns or US soldiers and the Elitist Media doesn't say jack squat being the govmnt lackys they normally are. Oh, but SPY ON THEM, not just us "commoners," and then, (only then) its a high crime or unacceptable.

Re: NBC: Holder OK'd Search Warrant For Fox News Reporter's Private Emails, Official

from the new yorker link above (thanks to the poster for providing it):

The Obama Administration fought to keep a search warrant for James Rosen’s private e-mail account secret, arguing to a federal judge that the government might need to monitor the account for a lengthy period of time.

The new details are revealed in a court filing detailing a back and forth between the Justice Department and the federal judges who oversaw the request to search a Gmail account belonging to Rosen, a reporter for Fox News. A 2009 article Rosen had written about North Korea sparked an investigation; Ronald C. Machen, Jr., the U.S. Attorney who is prosecuting Stephen Jin-Woo Kim, a former State Department adviser who allegedly leaked classified information to Rosen, insisted that the reporter should not be notified of the search and seizure of his e-mails, even after a lengthy delay.

Machen insisted the investigation would be compromised if Rosen was informed of the warrant, and also asked the court to order Google not to notify Rosen that the company had handed over Rosen’s e-mails to the government. Rosen, according to recent reports, did not learn that the government seized his e-mail records until it was reported in the Washington Post last week.

According to recently unsealed documents in the case, the Obama Justice Department sought an extensive amount of information from Rosen’s e-mail account. In addition to Rosen’s correspondence with Kim, the government wanted to know about Rosen’s contacts with other government officials, including “records or information relating to the Author’s communication with any other source or potential source of the information disclosed in the Article.”

The new documents show that two judges separately declared that the Justice Department was required to notify Rosen of the search warrant, even if the notification came after a delay. Otherwise: “The subscriber therefore will never know, by being provided a copy of the warrant, for example, that the government secured a warrant and searched the contents of [his or] her e-mail account,” Judge John M. Facciola wrote in an opinion rejecting the Obama Administration’s argument.

Machen appealed that decision, and in September, 2010, Royce C. Lamberth, the chief judge in the Federal District Court for the District of Columbia, granted Machen’s request to overturn the order of the two judges.

indeed, dc district judge lamberth apologized this week for failing to unseal the warrant for 18 months after his superior directed him to do so (link in the op)

why so much secrecy, why so much coverup?

Vast majority? I don't think so.

Nice conspiracy theory. Did you come up with that one all by yourself?

Sorry having been in the military I have no tolerance for leakers and the press that run with the leaks. None.

My dad felt the same way when he was in Vietnam as a Green Beret. He said they would compromise a mission in heartbeat if it gave them a story.

FOX is a joke for news. It's a tabloid network that spews out whatever their viewers want to hear. It's obvious that's all you listen to.

I am all for calling it wrong, but because of things like the patriot act it may be completely within the realm of legal powers given to the executive branch. If it is legal for national security reasons it is not wrong under the law. Which means you are pretty much screwed on impeachment unless they screw up someplace else. Not to mention removing Obama from power does not remove the powers granted to the executive to do this sort of thing. I would love to hear from the republicans that it is time to kill the patriot act and any other act or amendment that would allow for this sort of abuse. If you want to see if you can nail Obama because he did this i would even see that as a worthwhile persuit even though I do not think it will get anywhere because it was probably within the powers granted to the executive under these rights eroding acts. But let us do that afterwards. get the patriot act and any others out of the way while we have support and then hammer obama. We cannot trust any executive appointee or elected officials to act within those powers without crossing the line. I would not give any democrat or republicans such powers, they gave it to themselves and we should all be threatening to find new representatives within our respective parties if they do not remove those things immediately. Expecting people to switch parties because the other party would never do anything like this even when the power is granted to them is downright stupid and crazy. I am sorry if this offends, but if you think your party is an alternative to this sort of behavior you are a gullible moron who is too stupid to be allowed to vote or even tie their own shoes without supervision. That is why i would not ask anyone to actually switch parties because it would never solve the problem.

Also, do not think it is not your state reps that are involved in this. Your state needs to send a message to it's people that they will remove these things or they will not make their primaries. You cannot point to other states and wait for other people to do what you should be doing. You need to threaten the people you vote for and support with replacement if you truly care about these sorts of abuses because no one else can do it. Even if you like everything else they do, and even if you would never actually vote for someone else, you need to make the threat or else they will never remove these power and your rights will never be protected from these abuses. They need to fear for their jobs and know it is a step too far. They also need to know they cannot pass the blame solely on obama for something they allowed to happen and they will be held responsible by losing their positions for such monumental corruption and complete corrosion of the constitution which they allow.

march 7: Paul's filibuster provokes answer from Holder - CBS News

White House press secretary Jay Carney read both Paul's question and Holder's response at today's briefing.

"Senator Paul has raised questions about the president's authority to use leghal force within the United States, which John Brennan and the Attorney General have both answered," Carney said. "Today, Sen. Paul raised an additional question and the Attorney General has answered it."

According to Carney, Paul asked, "Does the president have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil?"

In his response, also read by Carney, Holder replied succinctly: "The answer to that question is no."
