Boy Scouts vote to welcome gay members

The Boy Scouts of America organisation has voted to welcome openly gay scouts, ending a divisive ban.But a ban on openly gay adult scout leaders will remain in place.
More than 60% of the national council, with 1,400 voting members, supported the change at a meeting in Texas.
The campaign over the ban pitted conservatives, especially religious groups that sponsor local scouting chapters, against liberals opposed to what they deem outdated discrimination.
The change is effective on 1 January.
The resolution repealing the ban "reinforces that Scouting is a youth program, and any sexual conduct, whether heterosexual or homosexual, by youth of Scouting age is contrary to the virtues of Scouting," the Boy Scouts of America said in a statement.
"While people have different opinions about this policy, we can all agree that kids are better off when they are in Scouting."
The issue was put to the organisation's national board in February, but a decision was delayed until the larger council could decide.

    Good for the Scouts.

And I eagerly await the freakishly hateful statements that will inevitably come from people like the Family Research Council.

    Great news.

I never understood the ban. Gay boys can certainly be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

I support this. I'm sure there are rules against sexual conduct within the Scouts on trips and stuff and that's all that really needs to be done.

As I said before when gays were banned from the club and I will repeat now that they are not, the boy scouts have the right to make access decisions on who can join their club. I hope the opposing side that liked my posts in those threads will show everyone they have nothing against gays by liking this post as well.

It's not up to us to decide on who they want in their club and as I said before I really don't care one way or the other.

Long as they decided for themselves and didn't do it simply because of social pressure. They had all right to ban gays, but one more step for equality, right?

Now, I don't have to hear about this again. Lovely, we can move on.

The ban on openly gay adult leaders is still disgusting though.

Oh lovely! A glimmering beacon of egalitarianism off in the distance.

You'll hear about it. This is nothing but a break in the storm. Next will be the "Why can't gays be scout Masters. It isn't like all gays are pedophiles."

When will they allow atheists? I guess this proves that being gay is better than being an atheist in this country.
