    Interesting you should ask.

See, I'm not asking for your respect. I'm putting my opinion and my beliefs out there and you can choose to respect them or not. I'm also answering questions about why I believe what I believe because that's part of EARNING respect. That's also pretty much the opposite of what the gay activists have convinced the scouts to do to themselves and it's exactly why I'm bitching about this decision.

Let me be more clear....people have an inherent right to be treated as human beings but they DO NOT have an inherent right to be accepted by society or respected by that society.

Simply living with a male partner or having a husband can prevent a gay man from being a scout leader, even if the only thing that makes them "obviously" gay is that they are in a relationship with someone of the same sex. Just because a person is gay and "open" does not mean that it is a major part of how they present themselves.

That's just a fact.

    I'm betting it's a don't-ask/don't-tell policy. It's a private organization....given that, I think they've taken a great first step. And the right one.
And there are some (not many but still some) heterosexual men who would appear flamboyantly gay. (That dad from one of those pageant shows comes to mind, married to a woman and he sewed the girls costumes and set up routines for her. He was basically the "pageant mom" type, but a man. He would be allowed to be a BSA scout leader.) There are some heterosexuals who don't model a typical male role model either, but that doesn't prevent them from being troop leaders. If it were all about "the correct male model", then it should be based on the behaviors themselves, not their sexuality.

You suggested that official policy change would impact how kids perceive homosexuals and teasing.

    Such is rather naive

Remember how people used to make fun of celebrities that came out as gay? Why did that stop? Why did people stop making fun of Ellen, and Seacrest?

They usually form because certain individuals within groups can be obvious, and when those individuals share some common traits, then those traits are associated as being part of the group, in large numbers, when, although they may be more common in certain groups of people, that doesn't necessarily make them traits that a majority of the group holds.

So instead of Boy Scouts "marching" and singing boy scout songs will they be "skipping" and singing show tunes?

While not scientifically proven, the widely accepted conventional wisdom is that the increasing acceptance of homosexuals has been heavily influenced by greater exposure to homosexuals.
