Labor unions are breaking with President Obama on ObamaCare.

Months after the president’s reelection, a variety of unions are publicly balking at how the administration plans to implement the landmark law. They warn that unless there are changes the results could be catastrophic.

The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) — a 1.3 million-member labor group that twice endorsed Obama for president — is very worried about how the reform law will affect its members’ healthcare plans.

Last month, the president of the United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers released a statement calling “for repeal or complete reform of the Affordable Care Act.”

UNITE HERE, a prominent hotel workers’ union, and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters are also pushing for changes.

In a new op-ed published in The Hill, UFCW President Joe Hansen homed in on the president’s speech at the 2009 AFL-CIO convention. Obama at the time said union members could keep their insurance under the law, but Hansen writes “that the president’s statement to labor in 2009 is simply not true for millions of workers.”

Everyone with a brain warned before this thing was passed that it was a steaming pile of manure and that was before we knew what all was in it.

Obamacare was based on a lie, pushed through with lies and we are continuing to be lied to about it.

How do you Obama supporters & Obamacare supporters feel about being lied to this whole time? I mean stared at in the eye and lied to your face...does it make you feel all fuzzy and warm inside knowing the man you support and defend day in and day out stands there and lied to your face?

You mean union members are going to have to play by the same rules as the rest of us???? Oh, noes!!!!!!

I keep telling my congress critters to stop whining and start working. Any bill can be improved. Stop trying to return to the mess we had and make this more thing that works.

We're soon to be a nation with a workforce largely of part-time workers. I can assure you that.

I'll pay you for 29 hours a week, and you go to the free clinic for your healthcare. Deal.

Start "working to do what " ? This bill on a fundamental level is a absolute disaster.

You do realize this was already the case, a movement that started long ago. No serious person would consider this reform the cause of that.

However, you want to remove healthcare as an excuse? Remove it from employment. Say with a universal payer.

Maybe go back to public option? If really serious, seek a universal payer system. That's just a couple of options.

Sounds like inexpensive and magnificent healthcare!

No freaking way.

First we had to pass it to find out what's in it, now we have to fully implement it to see how truly bad it is, and next we have to allow middle class Americans to get bent over and anally raped before we fix it or get rid of it.

Yes we can! Only in the USA!

If anyone cared about the middle class, there'd be support for UHC and unions.

Just saying . . . :coffeepap

Wrong, there is a direct relation to employers cutting their hours to the Obamacare mandates.

Some people are so incredibly blind.

I'm all for UHC, but none of our politicians wanted that, as it was never even brought to the table and fought for. Our representatives, both Dems and Reps, love catering to big business, and there's no way they're going to put big insurance out.

As for unions, I totally support private sector unions, as long as they are optional and paying dues is not a requirement for employment. Public sector unions are a big problem and need to be gotten rid of.

No, there really isn't. You have merely been conditioned to react that way. It was happening long before reform. Sorry.

Pits not brought to the table because they can barely handle the demonization they get from far more modest proposals. And yes, only talks today, being free speech and all. But it swings both ways.

Both public private workers who don't pay benefit from the work of unions. We are not union where I work, but benefit from their work as our employer keeps ace in order not to have a union brought here.

As fr public sector employees, as soon as they no longer work, provide services, get paid salaries, I'll agree they don't need unions. But most of the arguments against they are flawed. Negotiate better, as the state does here in Iowa. That's all you need do.

PART-TIME WORK NEW LABOR TREND

By WILLIAM SERRIN (The New York Times); National Desk
July 9, 1986, Wednesday

[ DISPLAYING ABSTRACT ]

A fundamental change is occurring in the American workplace as more and more employers rely on temporary and part-time workers. The movement toward using these workers and others hired indirectly through leasing or subcontracting represents a substantial reversal of a trend that has prevailed for more than 50 years. Over that period, company personnel policies, union organizing and collective bargaining agreements as well as legislation have all helped increase job stability and protection. Now a ''weakening of ties'' between employee and employer ''is definitely developing,'' said Thomas Bailey, associate research scholar at the Conservation of Human Resources program at Columbia University. Viewpoints on Part-Time Jobs Two views exist over the development of part-time jobs.

PART-TIME WORK NEW LABOR TREND - NYTimes.com

That damned Obama, causing this all the back then with his reform.

(Just a hint: you can find this growing ever since).

Less expensive than we do now.

Not by a longshot. You are going to be shocked at what this will cost you, and your employer. Even your own Democrat leaders are saying that.

Typical, going what "people" are saying versus facts. We pay more than everyone. Single payers pay less. You don't really need the link do you?

Premiums are going to skyrocket, regardless of what you want to believe.

Judging by recent news and events, I wouldn't trust much of what you've been told by your leaders.

So mine haven't. In fact, the lowest increase we seen in a long time. Long before reform, thy skyrocketing (that damned Obama oing this before he was even elected). However, if they do, there is no logical reason to blame the reform. They just know you'll accept that line.
