Republicans Expand I.R.S. Inquiry, With Eye on White House

Anyone who is abusing the tax code:

So when Schumer's letter stated:

New York Times has uncovered new, specific problems on how c)4)s conduct business. We wanted to address those new concerns in this letter.

And the NYTs stated:
¶ WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service is caught in an election-year struggle between Democratic lawmakers pressing for a crackdown on nonprofit political groups and conservative organizations accusing the tax agency of conducting a politically charged witch hunt...In recent weeks, the I.R.S. has sent dozens of detailed questionnaires to Tea Party organizations applying for nonprofit tax status, demanding to know their political leanings and activities.

I can speculate as well, it could mean conservative groups abuse the 501c(4) tax code more than liberal groups.do.

What, your'e just starting your speculation NOW ?? LOL !!

You've been speculating to cover up for a corrupt ideology and President for a looong time now given your post count.

This is a GREAT idea. Didn't the President attempt to run without 'help' from these type organizations?...how'd that work out? Point being this isn't a one sided issue.

Obama was smart enough not to get "Willie Hortoned".
Repubs get most upset when Dems play by their rules.
How did Holder's smack-down of Issa over Bush/Cheney's fast and furious work out?
With all the good work Catholic Charities does, for instance,
not 1% of their money should go to politics
or they should lose tax-exempt status.

Because of Repubs playing dodge-ball with our laws, we must end all tax-exempt status. Too bad what they're doing to the Country.

Actually they're doing the Country a hell of a favor, exposing how corrupt the Obama administration is AND exposing how dishonest their supporters are.

Well, the Cons on this site are exposing their supporters dishonesty. We do what we can.

It may have been fortuitous that Rahm Emanuel moved on before the ship hit the sand. Perhaps he was smart enough to realize that you can't play Chicago politics on a national level.

Rahm has backed every union down since coming back to town. You may remember the teacher's strike last fall. Chicago/Illinois(Harding) corruption began in 1920 with Repubs. They invented pay-for-play.

The current phony "scandals" that haven't been proven are the Repubs latest excuses not to legislate. Looking forward to the day Issa and Boehner are locked up.

Crossroads GPS

Organizing for Action raises $4.8 million in first quarter - chicagotribune.com

After launching in mid-January, the group was buffeted by sharp criticism for forming as a social welfare organization under section 501(c)4 of the tax code, which allows it to conceal its donors and accept unlimited sums. A plan to solicit $500,000 from wealthy donors and fund-raisers to be part of an advisory council that would meet quarterly with Obama fueled the controversy.

Guilty until proven innocent.
Republican justice.
And Watergate does not bother me.

we must end all tax-exempt status

except for abongo roy malik's

miller, lerner, shulman, wilkins, grant---they killed 501c reform

congrats

IRS scandal: What we still haven't learned/Politico

Could the scandal and ensuing investigation permanently hamper 501(c)(4) regulation?

If the IRS was too aggressive in overseeing 501(c)(4) groups before the scandal, there are questions about whether it will go tough on them at all now that the agency is being raked over the coals.

you're actually looking for a more muscular irs outta this?

LOL!

say hi to alice

Chicago corruption began in 1920 with Repubs

absolutely

and the fact that windy city schoolkids can't get to and from class, y'know, alive is all the cause of scarface capone

LOL!

You asked me for my opinion and I gave it. However thinking about it some more, I think conservatives are using the 501 c(4) Tax code to shield their political donors from being known to the public. A particular corporation wouldn't want the public to know their political leanings.

Nice Lynyrd Skynyrd reference. ". . . Does your conscience bother you?"

Rock will always be where I roll.
As you corrected me on Bob Seger.
I wish I didn't know now ....
The kids like the Highway on Sirius.

"New Country" sounds a lot like 70's rock.:rock

Exactly--I see the Doobies have moved over and Skynyrd and the Allmans are still around. Too bad about those planes crashed. Sirius has a habit of pushing groups for the rock HOF. this year it was all Rush. I was disappointed they downplayed Heart. She sings Zeppelin live better than Plante ever did, even now.

I am a big fan of Heart. The Doobies are my favorite band.:rock

I've always believed that Rock can bring us together in all areas, such as politics.
On these inquiries, I tend to agree with Clinton's bald man married to Matalin. CRS--
I see nothing ever being accomplished again without 60 in the Senate.
You couldn't have a worse messenger than Issa.

The Repubs, aren't playing dodge-ball, far from it. They are never allowed tax-exempt status by the corrupt left wing IRS crushing the voice of the Right. Yeah it is criminal with the leftest IRS is doing to this county. And Obama is standing in the way of forming a special counsel to investigate the IRS because all this corruption leads direction to his door.

Just the opposite, especially when Bush/Cheney ran the country into the swoon that Obama saved us from. ABO---Against Brutal Odds

Boehner/TEAparty treasonous disgrace----Credit Downgrade

Appreciate the fright-wing talking points on Obama not having a special counsel. Many thanks.

AP: Economic recovery is weakest since World War II

America's gross domestic product — the broadest measure of economic output — grew 6.8 percent from the April-June quarter of 2009 through the same quarter this year, the slowest in the first three years of a postwar recovery. GDP grew an average of 15.5 percent in the first three years of the eight other comebacks analyzed.

Consumer spending has grown just 6.5 percent since the recession ended, feeblest in a postwar recovery. In the first three years of previous recoveries, spending rose an average of nearly 14 percent.

The economy shed a staggering 8.8 million jobs during and shortly after the recession. Since employment hit bottom, the economy has created just over 4 million jobs. So the new hiring has replaced 46 percent of the lost jobs, by far the worst performance since World War II. In the previous eight recoveries, the economy had regained more than 350 percent of the jobs lost, on average.

Adjusted for inflation, wages have fallen 0.8 percent. In the previous five recoveries —the records go back only to 1964 — real wages had gone up an average 1.5 percent at this point.

You have to go back to 1920's Chicago for a comparison with what's happening today? That's probably a good parallel.

Still not criminal to lie to people if not under oath. Before they go after the first black President they are going to need something felonious to keep it from looking like a lynching in the minds of a good chunk of America, and probably rightfully so. I mean if anybody deserved to be impeached in recent years it was Ronald Wilson Reagan whose administration actively broke federal law.

Why is it always about race with you people? Seriously.

That was the beginning of the spiral we're still in and all brought to you originally by Republicans. Thank you very little.
