Men who are physically strong are more likely to have right wing political views

funny, other posters noted your obsession over "jam" was the obvious tactic of a wannabe trying to be hypertechnical to the point of demonstrating no real knowledge

your bitterness of not being worshiped because you made a choice you apparently bitterly regret now is not our fault

and shooting movers-LOL I was one of the top three ISU skeet shooters in the USA at one time

I think I know a bit more about the subject than a guy who I bet didn't make Expert

(which I did at AGE 13 with a MI)

Again more so you say with no expertise to back any of it up. Oh we covered jam lots, those who have reached a high level of expertise use the real words that decribe the failure to fire in precise detail- failure to feed, failure to extract... not jam... :lamo

You keep claiming some bitterness, again like your claims on what constitutes a coward, seem mostly in your mind, and lacking in any data to support- just more bull excrement.

Big difference between shooting movers with a red dot and rifle like you claim to do and a scattergun with very controlled targets. You have ZERO explanation on how it is done, just 'experience'...

the heroes were often flawed and the bad guys had a meritorious beef in some cases.

I stopped watching TV in the late 70's and never really became a fan again....................

5-7 when the average man is around 5-10? I find that hard to believe

my nephew is SF FT Lewis (Captain) and he's 5-8 and he says he was the shortest GB in the A camp he ran

I'm kinda small frame guy and when I was in they generally put platoons at bootcamp set up by height... I was never in the back. lol

They do that because when doing a hump... the pace is set by the longer strides and the tall guys don't have to half-step and trip behind the shorter strides of those in front of them.

I've heard claims as to why the average is small in the USMC like those joining often have a napolean complex. I don't know. Just googled it.

It does certainly seem that there is a trend in the conservative movements to emphasize a certain form of masculinity that tends to revolve around physical strength and physical labor, as opposed to intellectual strength and mental labor. This often manifests in a loud distrust of academia, college and college educated people, and intellectual "elites". I think this also manifests in the macho aggressiveness that informs a lot of the gun movement, and a lot of the misogyny that is rampant within conservative movements. Liberal city types with their fancy book learning are, I suppose, anathema to the country farm worker.

Oh look, we're still arguing Jefferson vs Hamilton, two hundred years later. What a shame the Jeffersonians are still stuck in the 18th century.

There are literally thousand of schools you didn't get into.

true, I only applied to Yale and Amherst for college and the top ten rated law schools

I never got into say Florida or Ohio State or the University of Perth (is there such a thing)

Apparently the gun was invented by some brawny guy punching a bunch of metal together.

Probably has more to do with power-to-weight ratio. I'm a pretty big guy, 6'6" and change- I was an ironworker for 30 years and a connecter for 15 of them and the average connecter is a smaller guy, definitely shorter than average, I'd say. It's easier to haul yourself and your rigging belt up a column if you're 5'10" and 175 than when you're 6'6" and 230.

to get to topic from a personal perspective... I tend to believe cardio > bulk building. Today what I see, especially in the younger generations, is that the belief is that weight training ONLY and building your body to an image is the healthy path. I find that to be a load of malarky. Of course you can weight train as part of your health plan but those that don't do cardio are not the image of health they think themselves to be. Not even close.

I haven't run in a while but with any of these self-aggrandizing beef-necks out there... please try to keep up with me on a 10k without fading out around mile 2 in a wheezing fit of meaty sadness. My point being, what's the point of building muscle if your muscles can't make your body do anything extraordinary other than pushing weights?

And for those of you walking around sizing up the world by whose ass you think you can kick... the average height of a Marine is 5'7". Please, by all means, go to a bar in Jacksonville, NC just outside of Camp Lejune and tell them that because of their average size they are physically inferior. Have fun.

You're making a severe oversight by assuming that it is a dichotomy between the two. For example, how do you explain decathalon athletes, some of whom have been shown to have bench press 1RM of over 400 pounds, and still run 4 minute miles?

he claims to have a law degree from the "school I didnt' get into"

that would have been Oxford under the Rhodes

I was cut at the finals

Even if you did get into Oxford, he probably got into some school on Mars. You know, because no matter what he is automatically smarter then you just because he is a liberal.

Interesting theory. Inherently embraces some pretty sweeping generalizations, so there are going to be lots of exceptions. Especially among libertarians, who don't fit your bill of what it means to be a conservative all too well.

Not necessarily, my upper body strength was a result of hard physical work.

The problem with gyms, your end up with designer body's and since your dealing with balanced weights while pumping iron that extra bulk has little value in the real world when true muscle strength may be needed.

While this my be true for people who use machines or bodybuilders - powerlifters, Olympic weightlifters and people who train like them have far more strength than anyone else on the planet.

I think that is true for many if not most heavy labor jobs. I'd like to have seen any of these beef-necks who focus on muscle mass primarily try to keep up with me when I was 14 years old, just over 100 lbs and was cropping in a tobacco field for summer work.

But could never keep up with an Ethiopian.

Like I said, weight training as an assist, but if it is your primary or only training... you are not as healthy as you think.

pound for pound gymnasts are pretty strong

for small dudes-jockeys are bad asses. that's a rare combination of toughness and iron balls in a small package
