White House in damage control mode as potential scandals pile up [W:378]

I think the Washington post has jumped the gun. On approval ratings and the like, I do not pay any attention to the Republicans as they will always knock the president and the Democrats, because they will always defend the president. I look to see what independents think. Right now, independents view the president favorable at the 46% mark, up from 45% last week. The presidents was at 48% last November among independents when he won re-election. So the bottom line is none of these scandals has stuck with them or changed how they view the president. That may change latter as independents do not really pay much attention to the happenings in Washington. But for now, the president is doing okay in their book.

Obama will probably continue to do well with those who don't pay attention to what's going on in Washington.

I'm one of those who voted for the winner in the election last November.

I'll bet that you will be voting for the loser in 2016.

"Better days are coming." ~ But not for today's out of touch, running out of time, GOP."

Aw, yes, no answers to the questions. not surprising

Why then was Susan Rice sent out to represent the Obama Administration when she didn't have all the facts?

She was sent out to lie, which she did repeatedly. The question is who instructed her to lie the way she did.

Any guesses, lefties?

Lots of people on the right (Like the guy that started this thread.) are praying for something that's not going to happen.

President Obama's approval rating has not moved and the GOP's rating is still in the toilet.

"Better days are coming." ~ But not for today's out of touch, running out of time GOP.

I think the Obama Administration had no business sending Susan Rice out to give out information that was proven to be a lie. I further think that since no one has been fired for incompetence the Obama Administration shows its own incompetence.
Your opinion is noted, however as I previously stated the information was supported by CIA documents which was the best UNCLASSIFIED information they had at the time. Eventually found to be incorrect, but not a lie.

Again, when were YOU ever about the govt talking openly about CIA ops?

You keep avoiding this basic point, if you want full disclosure, you are talking about telling everything about secret operations.

may be, and then maybe not. Independents are slow to react. They do not have knee jerk actions/reactions like those who post here. Their views are compiled over time, although at times they can swing wildly.I think it is more important to watch how this group more than any other views the president. After all they make up 40% of the electorate. So far none of this stuff has resonated with them. I don't think these scandals will cause more than a ripple among them. Perhaps a slight down tick.

I tell you what might. If Obamacare when it becomes fully implements is a drag on them, the train wreck some think it will be, then you will see a huge shift. But personally, I do not think so with these scandals.

Aw, yes, you ignored the resume and voted for the incompetent. You must be so proud. The guy that started this thread has 35 years business experience and was always judged based upon results, not rhetoric. You continue to buy the rhetoric and ignore the results because to you, you are incapable of feeling the cost of the debt, cost of the unemployed, cost of the foreign relation failures. When you do feel them it will be too late. Problem then is telling you "see, I told you so" isn't enough and that too will be too late

Again, why would the Administration send out Susan Rice with preliminary information that was absolutely false? It was an intentional attempt to mislead IMO

CIA documents said Benghazi was the result of a Youtube video? Do you have a link to that?

Incompetent? Do you remember where your hero President Bush was when hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans? President Obama is on top of the situation with these tornadoes and remember the complements Gov. Chris Christie gave our president. You have Obama Derangement Syndrome really really bad.

People are still homeless and suffering from Superstorm Sandy. It's absurd to suggest otherwise. It took months for the White House to submit emergency funding requests to Congress. That's a matter of public record.

Your about 12 donuts short of a dozen.

You should take better care to hide your blind partisan bias, when facts are so readily available.

I remember where President Bush was. As somebody who has experienced many hurricanes and who also understands who calls out the National Guard, I never understood the criticism.

Here is what Susan Rice said on ABC's This Week:

RICE: Well, Jake, first of all, it's important to know that there's an FBI investigation that has begun and will take some time to be completed. That will tell us with certainty what transpired.

But our current best assessment, based on the information that we have at present, is that, in fact, what this began as, it was a spontaneous -- not a premeditated -- response to what had transpired in Cairo. In Cairo, as you know, a few hours earlier, there was a violent protest that was undertaken in reaction to this very offensive video that was disseminated.

We believe that folks in Benghazi, a small number of people came to the embassy to -- or to the consulate, rather, to replicate the sort of challenge that was posed in Cairo. And then as that unfolded, it seems to have been hijacked, let us say, by some individual clusters of extremists who came with heavier weapons, weapons that as you know in -- in the wake of the revolution in Libya are -- are quite common and accessible. And it then evolved from there.

We'll wait to see exactly what the investigation finally confirms, but that's the best information we have at present.

Another apparently civics challenged individual. Tell me what the GOP could do with only control of the House. Why aren't you asking Harry Reid why he has House Bills in his desk that he refuses to open up for debate?

Care to wager on that?

Online gambling is illegal in the USA.

If the GOP doesn't change course soon it will end up as a minor, regional, party.

Don't think so?

Wait and see.

Filibuster, they can filibuster.

When did Bush have a filibuster proof Congress or any other Republican President? A leader works through others which shows Obama to have zero leadership skills

Tell me what the GOP will be doing after it is reduced to a minor, regional, party in the not-distant future.

There was plenty of fed funding of services signed off by the President, even as the storm hit...

Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy partially activated the state's Emergency Operations Center on October 26[130] and signed a Declaration of Emergency the next day.[131] On October 28, President Obama approved Connecticut's request for an emergency declaration, and hundreds of National Guard personnel were deployed.[132] On October 29, Governor Malloy ordered road closures for all state highways.[133] Numerous mandatory and partial evacuations were issued in cities across Connecticut.[134]

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick ordered state offices to be closed October 29 and recommended schools and private businesses close. On October 28, President Obama issued a Pre-Landfall Emergency Declaration for Massachusetts. Several shelters were opened, and many schools were closed.[135] The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority shut down all services on the afternoon of October 29.[136] On October 28, Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin, New Hampshire Governor John Lynch, and Maine's Governor Paul LePage all declared states of emergency

Federal Relief Costs Likely to Be Big, and Contested
By ERIC LIPTON and JENNIFER STEINHAUER
WASHINGTON — The first trickle of federal funds has started to go out after Hurricane Sandy — $29 million to rebuild highways, $30 million to hire temporary workers to help with the cleanup. But lawmakers are just beginning to tally what is certain to be a multibillion-dollar bill for the federal government at a time of fiscal restraint.

At least initially, New York, New Jersey and other states most affected by the storm will be spared the traditional fights in Washington over disaster assistance, thanks to a little-noticed provision in last year’s budget agreement that arose from the debt-ceiling fight and resulted in Congress setting aside roughly $12 billion for disaster relief.

The Federal Emergency Management Office has $7.5 billion to spend this fiscal year, and an additional $5 billion could be made available with no spending offsets required in other government programs.

While that will help in the short term, the East Coast states hit by the giant storm will almost certainly request billions in additional federal dollars, which would require appropriations by Congress and could set off partisan — or geographic — wrangling and stir longstanding concerns about fraud and waste.

New York state officials have already started to apply pressure on the federal government to cover a greater share of the rebuilding cost than is provided under the law, seeking 100 percent reimbursement for major infrastructure projects compared with the 75 percent automatically provided in major disasters. State officials have also talked of an ambitious new sea wall system, with a possible price tag of at least $10 billion, that could protect New York from a future superstorm.

“Our counties are responding to the continued impacts of multibuilding fires, tunnel closures, power losses to hospitals and other critical infrastructure, destroyed homes and sheltered populations — all in the midst of historic flooding that has complicated emergency response operations exponentially,” Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo wrote to President Obama on Wednesday.

Lawmakers from New York and elsewhere, perhaps wary of any requests for new federal spending that could become political fodder, so far are playing down the need for additional money. But when pressed, they acknowledge that they could soon follow.

“I think there is a very good chance we are going to need more than that,” Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, said in an interview Thursday of FEMA’s disaster-relief reserves. “But the immediate needs are being taken care of without people looking over their shoulders.”

Won't have to worry about it, democrats are the minority party in the largest state in the union with a Republican Governor and excellent economics. You ought to check out economic results rather than showing how inexperienced you really are
