IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups[W:484,732]

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

If she's not a witch no need for the 5th...of course, I could be wrong.

I think you are. It's smarter for her to just shut up at this point, no matter what happened.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

Because there is a republican witch hunt going on.

IF it's just a Republican witch hunt and she has nothing to hide, then why would she need to plead the fifth ?

Your really struggling to circumvent the main issue here and now have veered off into nonsensical rhetoric.

Lois Lerner, according to you was just doing her job, when does doing your job at the IRS mean you have to plead the 5th when your'e subpoenaed by Congress ?

What power does the Republican House have first off and second, if she's "innocent" then pleading the fifth certainly gives the impression that she has something to hide AND make's Obama's administration look complicit.

Well, first of all, you can't infer guilt from somebody pleading the fifth. Secondly, it is very prudent for her to keep her mouth shut no matter what happened, in view of the fact that there is a witch hunt going on. Partisanship rules the day, now, not law. The safest route for her is not to dig herself any deeper and keep her mouth shut. She must have a good lawyer.

She's got to look out for herself, it's not her job to protect Obama especially after he hung her out to dry. I feel bad for the lady, she is an innocent victim in all this.

protect Obama especially after he hung her out to dry. I feel bad for the lady, she is an innocent victim in all this.

That doesn't make sense. IF she wanted to "look out for her self" all she had to do was come out as a whistle blower and take advantage of the laws that are currently in place to protect her.

Sure, pleading the Fifth doesn't equate to a guilty verdict but it doesn't establish any sense of innocence either.

I don't feel sorry for her at all. She's a big girl, and I'm sure was taught at one time the difference between lies and truth.

Her initial impromptu press release was all lies. She stated that it was low level front line nameless faceless bureacrats.

We know better now. As soon as she agreed to push the new Narrative, that this was isolated and a way to increase effeciency she made her bed.

Lets see what happens when a citizen goes before a IRS auditor and " pledges the Fifth "

She didn't lie about anything. She did her job well, and she pushed the constitutional envelope. I don't see Republicans getting upset at unconstitutional profiling of various minorities, unconstitutional marriage restrictions, unconstitutional establishment of religion in the pledge of allegiance or on money, the hundreds of other instances where the government breaks its own rules. Selective outrage is all this is, and a witch hunt. You are not pursuing this is good faith. If you were to set your partisanship aside you'd see there is no issue here at all.

Innocent victims don't take the Fifth.

That's a ludicrous thing to say.

Just like she did at the FEC right?

IRS's Lerner Had History of Harassment, Inappropriate Religious Inquiries at FEC | The Weekly Standard
The Christian Coalition was ultimately absolved of any FEC wrongdoing in 1999, and Lerner was promoted to acting General Counsel at the FEC in 2001 before eventually moving on to the IRS. Bopp, who's all too familiar with the aggressive and inappropriate tenor she set leading the FEC's Enforcement Division, says he became concerned about what would happen as soon as Lerner joined the IRS. "When she left the FEC, I thought, 'Wow, this means the not for profit division is gearing up politically,'" he said. "It didn't bode well, because of the way [the FEC] approached cases."

Lerner had an agency that engaged in the exact same behavior. So, do you believe in coincidences?

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

That's not an argument, it's innuendo.

At FEC the agency actively targeted the Conservative Coalition and made depositions regarding who was praying for whom.

Now we that the IRS is suddenly doing the same type of thing...engaging in investigations of political opponents and asking inappropriate questions. For you to say its innuendo....they say ignorance is bliss, your comment is willfully blissful.

Yeah, I read that deposition. The line of inquiry is entirely appropriate, and the objections are absurd grandstanding. You might take note that "O" was never actually able to articulate a legal basis for his objection. Asking if Pat Robertson was praying from North is not the same as asking about the content of the prayers.

If this is all you have to hang your hat on it is weak, weak, weak.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

Nonsense. Where are your studies?
Surely there are studies. I can't imagine anybody taking the 5th who was guilty of anything.

He should have taken the fifth.

My partisanship is besides the point here. Seriously, she's pleading the fifith in front of a Comission created for the explicit purpose of getting to the bottom of this IRS issue. If there's no issue then she should be ready and willing to answer the questions from the "witch hunters".

Her sincere and " honest " answers would expose their Narraitive. Stop the Witch hunt right ? And your'e saying I'm being partisan ?

She is being questioned by a Republican Comittee but your'e claiming she needs to protect herself from Obama ?

And yes, she did lie. During the press conference she stated these were "front line employees in Cinci, and that was isolated to that division"

A clear attempt to mititigate the truth.

This isn't going anywhere, and I know for a fact more whistle blowers are on their way.

There is no legal right to that information, who anyone prays for is NONE of the business of the government. They have no right whatsoever to be asking the question in any tone or manner. Better check your libertarian card at the door of that argument.

Yeah, I know it's not going anywhere. That's the sorry state of American politics, that people are concerned about this nonsense.

Re: IRS apologizes for inappropriately targeting conservative political groups [W:484

I hope every citizen is concerned because what's going on here is a wake-up call.

The power to tax is the power to destroy. This is a serious matter. If she really does take the fifth then the reaction will achieve critical mass and the administration risks a firestorm.
