As much as I like technology, and agree with parts of the government trying to protect against terrorism...

My reservations have to do with the people who have access to such technology and data. The way that personal feelings about any given situation can and does lead to abuse of position by individuals. I wouldn't claim there was any conspiracy by the IRS. I see this as most likely being just that. Individuals using their own bias to pick and choose who to go after.

Would I be wrong to say that most government employees are left of center...

I would think so. Most of them are unionized. And most today are products not only of the counter culture from the 60s. They knew that violence like the SDS, and WU were not going to achieve their goals, so they infested all forms of government, education, environment, and even the establishment that they railed against, all to effect their "change" from the inside.

Most are lying, deceptive little trolls that don't deserve the station in life they now hold, but it isn't totally their fault. We let it happen.

obama came from the Chicago Mafia and I can easily see him using the IRS for political purposes but he is a professional criminal and I'm sure if he did he covered his tracks very well.

you need to ask who has the most to gain?
those low level employees had nothing to gain for unfairly targeting those groups, the ones who had everything to gain are the democrat politicians

Mitch McConnell is furious....This will be a slew of Senate hearings. If it does go to a higher place then it is a possibility, but I have to agree, at this moment, we'd better chalk it up to a culture of corruption in the bureaucratic cesspool...

For now, I think the IRS should be given first crack at disciplining and dispelling employees.

you are under the assumption this is just a incident localizes from one IRS office. I feel it goes up much higher then that. Congress needs to contact those low level workers and find out who gave them those marching orders and guarantee immunity from a criminal charge if they cooperate, and keep going up the chain of command tell it reaches the top. because if you just leave it up to the IRS it wouldn't go any further then those local low level workers

I'm not assuming any particular thing as certain. I just believe it all stems from human behavior at the individual level, and I don't think any wrongdoing was ordered. It is possible, but I find it less likely since any supervisor would know they could be fired for such actions.
