let's see. IRS staff auditing financial data to monitor compliance. and then we see organizations which are political and in their political discussions advocate non-compliance with tax authorities
nothing there smacks of idiocy. i would instead commend the staff for aptly recognizing that groups expressing political values and opposing tax compliance are more likely to be "political" and "non-compliant" with tax laws
but tell us why you believe otherwise. i need a laugh

i think that a TSA agent who selects someone who fits the bomber profile for strict scrutiny rather than an elderly woman needing assistance to walk, is smarter than the agent who does the opposite
tell me why you support the agent who does the opposite; selects for audit those with little expectation of being found non-compliant

POLITICAL appointees are the ones who have decided that the IRS will not identify which filings are more likely to be non-compliant
POLITICAL appointees are the ones who terminated auditors to effect budget cuts, despite that auditors return 28 times their cost to the treasury
the IRS worker bee employees exercised common sense that the POLITICAL employees did not
hence the apology

Yes because the press conference was to educate the reporters on how the IRS is structured, how the people are hired and give them a flow chart of who reports to who.

Wonder who that low level worker who sets IRS policy works under, Homer simpson?
