Frantic 911 call leads to 3 missing women in Ohio

News from The Associated Press

The woman's voice was frantic and breathless, and she was choking back tears. "Help me. I'm Amanda Berry," she told a 911 dispatcher. "I've been kidnapped and I've been missing for 10 years and I'm, I'm here, I'm free now."

Those words led police to a house near downtown Cleveland where Berry and two other women who vanished a decade ago were found Monday, elating family members and friends who had longed to see them again.

Authorities later arrested three brothers. They released no names and gave no information about them or what charges they might face.

A good end to a terrible story. Gina and Amanda have been missing for what seems like a lifetime, they dominated the local news for years and most gave up hope of finding them.....

So glad to hear that they both, along with a third woman Michelle Knight, were found alive. She was written off because she was 20 when she disappeared, but it goes to show you, never give up hope.

News reports indicate that the house had chains in the basement hanging from the ceiling, and investigators are digging up the backyard.
 
Hard to imagine hiding 3 women in a normal house in the city for 10 years.

One of the mother's of the kidnapped girls passed away before she could realize her daughter was found alive. They said she died of a broken heart. Only a sister survives.

These girls are going to be really messed up in the head. Everything is not honky dory.

What a story this is.

A neighbor, Charles Ramsey, is the real hero here. He saw her at the door of the house where she was being held and helped her and a baby escape. She then called police who came and rescued the other two.

What a story. It is a miracle these three gals survived.

I see movie rights in their futures. I hope they get very rich.

So much of this just doesn't make sense. Those houses are tiny with paper-thin walls, and built two feet from each other. How does no one figure this out for 10 years?

And this monster was a former school bus driver?

I have questions myself. Like how can a 50 year old manage to control and probably abuse 3 women?

Yours are somewhat easier. The link I gave you has another link on the right side showing that neighbors heard women screams and I guess they reported the police about it. I cannot see the link, perhaps you can?

Once you subdue the human spirit and instill fear you would be amazed at how much control you can have over a human being. My guess is they were tortured and repeatedly raped at least at first.

Besides a strong 50 year old male can easily overpower most young females.

And it's three brothers.

This isn't just one insane, crazy psychopath. This is an organized illegal business operating inside Cleveland, just blocks from where the girls were from.

Seems impossible.

Sounds like that Swiss guy who locked and had sex with his own daughters for more than 10 years. More light there should be put into this. In the meantime the women need some serious time in therapy. Some may have PTSD related symptoms.

I can so understand their cries now of going through a nightmare, lived it all, and having to know that now it freaking ended!. Reminds me of the war here in 1999. Locked we were in terror awaiting to defend our property and loved ones, be killed at it, and awaiting freedom each day for 77 days. Now that for 10 years and now the women are happily crying that it is over.

Wasn't he awesome!

The 911 dispatcher was jerk though. I heard that he didn't believe the neighbor guy and when he handed over the phone to Amanda, he kept saying, "talk to the police when they get there". I've heard lots of other 911 calls and usually the dispatcher will try to calm the caller. She was trying to convince him she was for real. She said her name several times and then explained she'd been in the news a lot. I think she was afraid he wasn't sending a car right then. In fact he said, when one becomes available he would send it.

Un-freaking-believable.

You'd be surprised how sound proof block foundation basements are.....From the reports I have heard, there were chains and shackles downstairs...What a horror, I am so glad that they were able to get free, and kudos to the neighbor that helped.

My wife said the exact same thing! lol....But yeah, the guy should get a commendation from the city....Great citizen.

Good gosh, that sends chills down my spine. We had a 14-year-old abducted here in DFW by an online predator that was trying to sell her in Tijuana, and cameras got them recognized. She's home now.

I have daughters, and it makes me so incredibly angry. I'm glad they rescued those girls, but it just turns me inside-out to think of where that family goes from here.

And these weren't crazed psychopaths. There were three (or more) of them, so this is calculated and systematic. Did these girls even leave the house for 10 years? Where did they take them? What kind of abuse did they endure?

It is chilling....One that I know of the original one that got out, and called police, has a 6 year old child, probably a direct result of the rapes she endured....
