Do you feel the commercial was racist?

i'm trying to show us that we need to get back to family values...good clean living starts with table manners and everything starts there...with table manners ....

From goat sex to Michelle Obama to table manners? I think what you might mean is personal discipline as evidenced in table manners, but bringing Michelle Obama into it is kind of a cheap shot in my opinion. We get to see behind the curtain more now, but I am sure Jackie O would have had her less than graceful TV moments had today's press been around then.

No, I think you are just being a racist. Table manners have nothing to do with the decline of western civilization.

oh here we go...racist....

this is whats wrong with you people..i'm no more a racist than i am a flake....

and bolding out a spade is a spade shows your age...where i come from that term neve was meant as a racist remark...your seeing bogy men ...

I'm actually less concerned about the racial stereotype and more concerned about what ****ing idiot thought this ad was a good idea? Who looked at this and thought "Yep, that's an effective ad campaign right there!"

Because they need to get canned.

I went to the link and all I got was a black box, Maybe the video has been scrubbed from the Internet in the name of political correctness ?

PC being censorship.

But I did read the script. I got a laugh and now I think I'll go out and buy a Mountain Dew.

This is just another example of a white beard scratching liberal telling the black community that they are to stupid to know that they are being stereotyped and made fun of by those right wing racist.

So what I'm going to do right now is go to You Tube and watch the Frito Bandito commercial and then head to the local market and buy a can of Mountain Dew and a bag of Fritos.

BTW: When I see a goat I think of Arab Muslims.

I thought it was -- more than anything else -- misogynist. Seriously, no one took offense to the battered and bruised woman in fear of her life? I have a pretty high tolerance and can laugh a lot of stuff... but this was absloute pure and utter crap.

see i dont really see that either (misogynist) only because the make-up and acting was so over the top and obnoxious, the make up, her shrill (ahhhh, ahhhhh, nooooo), the crutches and neck brace all way to over the top for me to ever think any part of this is to be serious. I see better make-up on 12yr olds for halloween zombies. lol

The green tie on the green shirt to help catch the DEW color in the dark etc. LL

how would that be sexist?

you might save yourself some trouble by just typing "look at me"

I did not find it particularly racist. I think it makes light of gang culture and domestic violence and dysfunction common to urban decay, and so was in bad taste. It probably deserves the outrage it's getting, but not on racial grounds per se.

Seems like some people can't resist the urge to automatically label something racist if it 1) offends them and 2) involves someone of a non-white race.

interesting i thought this thread for be more active, i guess i was wrong in assuming there'd be at least a collection of people that would think this actually was racist. Minimum, not that i wanted it, but i thought for sure somebody would try to derail it and use this ONE example to show how there is no racism lol

Oh well im glad when people just agree too, i have no idea what the people against this commercial were thinking though. If i was mtdew/pepsi co. I just get the Group/writer to make a statement tell people to lighten the hell up. lol
Im guessing had the add just been offered for consideration there would have been a much different response. As it is, the background information sort of steers the train for some folk. White ad company...RACIST. Black ad company...brilliant. Just an opinion.

how would that be sexist?

It makes women look like punching bags that should not be taken seriously. It makes the issue of a woman being beaten comical.

I can't believe I have to explain this. Have we become that desensitized?

Mountain Dew and Tyler the Creator Are Responsible for the “Most Racist Commercial in History”
this one is still working

that was a stupid commercial. Good grief, that woman shrieking?

Also, the guy who said it was the most racist commercial ever because all the people in a lineup were black -- this confuses me. When you have a police lineup, of COURSE the people in the lineup have to look similar. They are not going to have a black guy, a Chinese guy, 2 Arabic men and a fat white girl. If the suspect was a black man, they are going to have 5 black men. Sheesh.

What amounts for racism these days. Kind of silly.

Well i can only answer for me, and has a minority that would never be a sole factor.

Id offer into evidence "Barrack, The Magic Negro"...

And then follow up with "Donovan McNabb is an overrated quarterback"

yeah, the formula seems to be "I don't like this"

"hmm, involves a swarthly inclined individual"

"therefore racist"

Id offer into evidence "Barrack, The Magic Negro"...

????
not sure im familiar, maybe i am, and that would be evidence of what?

I'm inclined to agree with Middleground...the commericial was more mysogentistic than it was racist. But mostly it was just stupid.

Goats can be funny on their own...but using a goat to threaten a battered woman with more abuse...really isn't that funny.

Why are young black men in the same police line up with an abusive woman hating goat? Is there a message there?

It makes women look like punching bags that should not be taken seriously.

how does it do that? Seemed it was using over the top troupes, and in no way lended them legitimate credence

It makes the issue of a woman being beaten comical.

*sigh*

I can't believe I have to explain this. Have we become that desensitized?

No, you just need to lighten up and learn to take an attempt at humor as nothing more than an attempt at humor

????
not sure im familiar, maybe i am, and that would be evidence of what?
Evidence that perspective is everything. Black guy says it...all good. White guy says it...racist apocalypse.

I can say with relative certainty that if some white bread Ad agency offered that commercial it would be lambasted.

Umm.. Are we sure that someone isnt just using a spoof as a real commercial? I dont see how any part of that commercial could sell product. Nothing gets done and the goat gets away... The Dew wasnt done... Unless the whole point was that the prosecution was going to fry the goat even without true ID and testimony? *shrugs* Seems more like someone making fun of Mountain Dew to me. Just look at how bad the "agent" acting and casting is.

Barrack the magic negro was something coined by some liberal black professor talking about how white america has some fascination with "the magic negro". Rush Limbaugh picked up on it and was immediately accused of being racist
