And the FDA does not have the authority to limit access to drugs based on what they might do. They can only limit access to drugs that the evidence shows is dangerous.

If they had to limit access to a drug because it might be dangerous, then everything would require a prescription
 
Well, anyway at least they did come up with a minimum age requirement. I feel better about a 15-year-old getting these pills without a prescription, a doctor visit or anything other kind of responsibility than say a 12-year-old.

I still see a potential for abuse among the younger age groups with these pills though; little things that can have a big impact, such as not feeling the need to use condoms thereby increasing the rate of sexually transmitted disease and overuse of this pill.

That's not true. Even Tylenol can be dangerous, and there is no prescription required for Tylenol.

Again, perhaps you missed it, even Tylenol can be deadly if not taken as directed. Here we are trusting KIDS to take this drug responsibly. :roll:

Normally people get sick before they would die from water intoxication. Also, you can drink water every day and never be sick from it. That is NOT the case with Tylenol OR Plan B.

At the price it sells at, Plan B is not going to be taken every day. In addition, it doesn't work if taken regularly, so there's no reason to take it every day.

Plan B is available to teens in other nations. None of them are taking it every day.

That wasn't the point. The point is you can't compare something relatively benign like water to a drug that can most certainly have negative and dangerous side effects.

I highly doubt girls would use plan B as a regular form of birth control since Plan B costs about $40 to $50 and a months worth of b c pills is about $ 4. Condoms are much less expensive than Plan B and also help protect people from STDs also.

"The Plan B pills that Planned Parenthood and many university “health” systems sell like candy are NOT medicine. They are a very harmful and dangerous dosage of the hormonal steroid progestin that has already been proven to cause breast cancer, blood clots, cervical cancer, arterial plaque, and liver cancer in far lower dosages (birth control pills). Additionally, they deplete a woman’s body of bone mass and several important nutrients.

Even if your cycle ever gets back to normal, you’ll be left to forever ponder the unanswerable question of what really happened.

Indeed, this corruption of scientific facts and medical ethics goes all the way up the politically influenced ladder to the Food and Drug Administration and the American Medical Association. That’s how it somehow became “logical” and “ethical” that although women need to have their blood tested for clotting agents with the low dose steroids, this very important precaution is skipped altogether in the case of a dosage fifty times more powerful.

Plan B is not really that much different than RU-486 if it is working after conception. They both are early abortion pills that can and do bring a unique, tiny human life to his or her unnatural end. Even with all these differences, there are still many college kids today who do not plan out proper birth control strategies, but rely on this emergency contraceptive pill every time they have unprotected sex. This is not how it was intended to be used, and if older women can’t understand how to use it, it’s going to be even harder for younger teenagers.
There are side effects with Plan B, which include nausea, headaches and menstrual changes. While menstrual change in a 13- or 14-year-old girl is very common, if you introduce Plan B into the equation, it could make the effects even worse. Plan B can stop a period from happening all together, or prompt a lengthy menstrual cycle – which has complications unto itself.
And by the way, emergency contraception is not 100 percent effective. Effectiveness ranges anywhere between 89 to 94 percent. And for people who use this type of emergency contraception, if they don’t get their period after three or four weeks, they better do a pregnancy test, because you may not have taken it during the indicated window – and you may very well be pregnant.
Given all of this information, you mean to tell me a child of 13 is going to have that maturity to deal with these types of protocols? I think not. What this ruling is doing is placing young girls in danger, not only due to the potential issues that can arise from using emergency contraception, but also because of what it teaches them – or more specifically – what it doesn’t. It teaches them nothing about protecting themselves from sexually transmitted diseases, nothing about the strong values of sex education and nothing about respecting their bodies."

Now think about this....What problems could occur from girls being given this hypothetically without her knowledge....? Or, if the girl taking this has some sort of indicator of which she shouldn't be taking it and doesn't bother to read the box and takes it anyway?

I mean, really, Sangha. The pill IS a hormone, a synthetic progesterin hormone. The person who takes it is putting levonorgestrel-- and at a higher dose than levonorgestrel has been added previously in other pills--into her body, which already has naturally occurring female hormones.

And yet you claim that this synthetic hormone has no effect on female hormones.

The fact is it is the estrogen in BC pills that causes strokes , blood clots ,and other medical problems in women.

Since Plan just has progesterone it is safe .

Plan B is not effective once the process of implantation has begun. It will not affect an existing pregnancy or harm a developing fetus.

Plan B does not cause an Ectopic Pregnancy but:

Scaremongering of the lowest order should not deny women access to a drug with a better safety profile than many other freely available OTC medicines. The FDA remit is science, not superstition or morality.
