Quote it. And its not a charitable organization. That is only one form of 501c6. Its simply a non profit, specifically a trade association.
    501(c)(6)

501(c)(6) organizations include Business Leagues, Home Builders Association, Chambers of Commerce, Real Estate Boards, etc. such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce political action committee and the National Football League.

IRC 501(c)(6) provides for exemption of business leagues, chambers of commerce, real estate boards, boards of trade, and professional football leagues… which are not organized for profit and no part of the net earnings of which inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual.

The National Football League operates as a 501(c)6 non-profit association and has operated that way since the 1960s. This in no way means the NFL is a stranger to profit. It is in fact one of the most profitable sports leagues in the United States, making over $9 billion in profits from 2011 to 2012, according to Business Insider.

Read closer, they are talking about the individual teams, which do pay taxes. The "NFL" 501c6 does not profit.

Friggin Tax Code. There is no reason for this exemption. Even in the 60s. Its time to scrap the damn code and start over.

They do profit directly. They have licensing profits, sales profits from tickets and merchandise, and they have media profits from their broadcasts. All of these things are taxable for any other for profit business in the US including entertainment, which is what they are. Not to mention they must have done some major alteration to the normal NFP organization to get the NFL in there considering that they do not abide by any of the normal regulations of NFPs. This is a pure commercial business that is being treated like a charity.

So why not tax whole organization instead of individual teams? Since they clearly operate for profit and not as a charity.

Let us tax both. The NFL: is not providing a community service that is for everyone. The NFL provides an entertainment venue for sports fans. I see the purpose of the law to allow local sports leagues to operate for community benefit to provide a competitive organization for recreational players to play under. The NFL does not do this, they have a very exclusive organization which plays for the entertainment of their fans. They are not doing anything for the community, they are simply running games for profit. This means we should tax them at all levels as we would tax any other business.
