The administration has approved 99.5 percent of applications of those who have applied for legal status under President Obama’s nondeportation policy for young adults, granting legal status to more than 250,000 formerly illegal immigrants.

Officials said they expect the approval rate to drop as more cases make their way through the system, as it takes longer to deny an application than to approve it. Indeed, the approval rate already has dropped from 99.8 percent just a month ago.

But the high rate leaves others wondering whether the administration is doing all it can to weed out fraud or potentially dangerous illegal immigrants in DACA, or the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, as it’s formally known.

DACA is seen by many as a test-run should Congress pass a broad legalization for most of the 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S.

dhs points to 98.2% in march---as if that's comforting

98% of applicants have no criminal record and have either graduated high school or served in the military?

very impressive

only 1377 formerly illegal aliens out of 268316 applicants busted out

are our undocumented neighbors and friends required to demonstrate no public charge before they are given legal status?

should they be?

Yep, immigration should be legal.

So far, they're just legalizing youth who were brought here as children, at east that's what they say. Once they get on the amnesty bandwagon for good, we'll see a big increase in illegal immigration.

At least, that's what happened the last time it was tried.

Doesn't that indicate that most of these people have lived responsibly and stayed out of trouble?

It's the ones that don't apply that I would be worried about. So the ratio of successful applicants to the number of eligible candidates would be more educational (if it exists).

I don't get this. The requirements for approval are the same no matter what...why does it take longer to deny than to approve? They either meet the requirements or they do not.

In either case this whole thing is just another example of how Obama doesn't give a crap about our laws and our system. As much as I hate to say it I am starting to wonder if Biden wouldn't be better as POTUS....and that is saying alot.

We should encourage immigration. Hard working Mexicans will probably build a better society, a better America, than fat, lazy, entitled, government-owes-me-everything, Americans.

Encourage immigration and abolish all government welfare. Problem solved.

Just a little over the top, maybe?

Nope. The end goal should be getting rid of the government completely, but a good start would be to get rid of welfare programs and let private charity, churches, and community organizations take on a much greater role in our society.

Why send him back home when we can do it here?

Are there a lot of illegal Muslims?

Probably not, but who knows? If there are, then it is likely that at least a few of them are here for no good purpose.

So that when the gays and the atheists need help you can just let them suffer?

Plenty of private charity and community organizations to help all kinds of different peoples. Yes, even churches help gay people and atheists! Imagine this, when you come to a church in need, the first question they ask is not usually "are you straight, are you Christian?"

There should be a nationwide deportation of all illegal immigrants, however long it takes to round them up, and a huge ****ing wall should be constructed with armed guards on it. No more illegal immigration problem.

Try sneaking into North Korea for example, see how they treat you. We are too nice about this.

I understand your point and concern, and there was a time when I felt that way, but if you're not a Native American isn't this train of thought just a little hypocritical?

Not usually ain't good'nuff.

I'm not saying I condone how this country came to be established - with the slaughtering and displacement of masses of Native Americans. However, the United States is established, and was established long before I got here. I have nothing to do with that.

I am lucky to be a citizen of this country, to have been born here. I am here by the luck of the draw. I could have been born in another country and not be a citizen. It does not change the fact that I would be an illegal immigrant if I tried to sneak into another country without permission. There is a way to go about immigrating to this country. What should be done in addition to building a wall, is improving the process for legal immigration. It should be a focus of current U.S. politics.

What I was trying to get at is my ancestors came off the boat, were checked for any diseases, and were waived right on in. Pretty much were told "Thanks for coming and good luck". I don't see why it should be any different today.
