UK In Dark Mood As New Recession May Be Confirmed

AP is reporting the likelihood of The United Kingdom being in a recession: UK in dark mood as new recession may be confirmed
LONDON (AP) Recession may just be a word. But in Britain it may become a habit and a dangerous one at that.

It's possible that official figures on first quarter economic growth, to be released Thursday, could show the country is back in recession, and tension is building.

Although economists on average expect growth of 0.1 percent on the quarter, they warn it would take the smallest statistical variation to put the figure in negative territory. That would place the country in recession, typically defined as two consecutive quarters of economic contraction.

Another recession the third since the 2008 financial crisis is already being referred to with foreboding in the media as a "Triple Dip." Experts warn that its confirmation would create a wave of negative media attention that would scare consumers away from spending, feeding into a vicious cycle that has the economy flat-lining.
Regardless of whether it's 0.1 percent or -0.1 percent, for the millions without work, it's still economic hell.

The UK and associates are facing the "The Global Economy" chickens coming home to roost that happens when you export your jobs to wage-slaves and thus import those workers' third-world poverty.

Last I looked, we in the U.S., as a western-world associate in the matter, are feeling the effects of the same stupidity.

    Tick tock, America.
You don't trust Trump? Well, there's only one way to leverage him to do what's economically right for us all: Powerful American Political Alliance. Got courage?! .. and a mere $5.00?

Ah the good ol' outsourcing fallacy, hello we meet again.
Nobody who wins a war indulges in a bifurcated definition of victory. War is a political act; victory and defeat have meaning only in political terms. A country incapable of achieving its political objectives at an acceptable cost is losing the war, regardless of battlefield events.

Bifurcating victory (e.g. winning militarily, losing politically) is a useful salve for defeated armies. The "stab in the back" narrative helped take the sting out of failure for German generals after WWI and their American counterparts after Vietnam.

All the same, it's nonsense. To paraphrase Vince Lombardi, show me a political loser, and I'll show you a loser.

If you ship once-American jobs to China, Mexico, Honduras, or any other place where labor is cheap, it has a serious effect on the manual labor population of America. Not everyone can be a CEO or computer programmer. We used to have a large population of people who worked in factories, and were able to make a living wage.

We are not in the Euro zone - so at least that's something to be happy about

In terms of your analysis regarding jobs, we have a lot of foreign investment in the UK and a lot of foreign companies have manufacturing plants here, especially in relation to the car industry and British luxury goods are doing a brisk trade in emerging markets such as China.

The main bone of contention in the UK being austerity measures and cuts in relation to budget deficits. The opposition Labour Party arguing for less severe cuts over a longer period of time and some investment in building and other such projects to try to kick start the economy. The current Government is however committed to it's programme of cuts in order to bring down deficit levels, arguing that doing this now will be much better for the economy in the longer run. Other than that there's not really that much Britain can do, as the recession is global and our trade with the EU has been badly effected by the Euro zone crisis.

Interesting that Conservatives in the US want to follow the UK's brilliant austerity program. Now that we can see the effects... full steam ahead eh Cons?

The UK was forced into extreme austerity after they refused to rein in spending when it would have been easy, that is the road obama and the Dem's want to go down. We should learn from the UK and Greece but.....
