Six-term Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., plans on retiring at the end of his term, he announced Tuesday."Deciding not to run for re-election was an extremely difficult decision," Baucus said in a statement. "After thinking long and hard, I decided I want to focus the next year and a half on serving Montana unconstrained by the demands of a campaign. Then, I want to come home and spend time with Mel, my son Zeno, and our family enjoying the Montana public lands we've fought hard to keep open and untarnished."

Montana Democrat Max Baucus to retire - CBS News

the author of obamacare, who just last week called the president's signature piece not a train wreck but a "huge train wreck," also voted to help kill manchin-toomey, the swiss-cheese-like background check bill, the death of which launched barack hussein full quack into lameduck status

6 terms, 36 years, 13 as chair of senate finance

trailing in the polls, baucus has also been fighting with reid and reid's puppet master, schumer, over comprehensive tax reform---the outgoing chair wants to eliminate loopholes and deductions in return for a broad based lowering of corporate and personal rates

Baucus to retire rather than seek reelection in 2014: Washington Post

ie, anathema to party leadership

baucus makes SIX retirees---tim johnson from dakota, lautenberg from joisey, levin from michigan, rockefeller from WV, and iowa's tom harkin

other D held seats potentially vulnerable include---alaska (begich), lousiana (landrieu), arkansas (pryor), north carolina (hagan) and on the outside virginia with mark warner

fyi

That's disappointing. If Schweitzer runs, he's much more likely to hold onto it than baucus.

Why is that disappointing? Schweitzer was a popular governor and a progressive one at that.

Also he made a point of vetoing certain bills by using a cattle branding iron.

Exactly. Baucus is a snake.

I agree they're vulnerable seats - however, if the Republicans continue to nominate the unelectable, it will matter not.

Now that he totally ****ed the country over, he can retire with his fat congressional pension and CONGRESSIONAL HEALTHCARE PLAN. The SOB ought to lose everything and be frog-marched out of DC.

6 terms is too many---as with so many Repubs like Hatch
It's disgusting to watch Lying Graham Bi-polar McCain tack right to win their primaries.
3 straight Senate terms is enough.
Too bad states are limiting governors to two terms. three is better.
Then let the Senators go to the House and see how the other half lives if they want to.

indeed, I hope he runs.k

Johanns and Chambliss are a good start from the repubs.
I'm sure they don't have any of Baucus's perks, no matter how much of a POS he is.

Anyone behind Obamacare, but we're not talking about them are we?

Such as Heitkamp who voted against gun registration but supports Keystone and Obamacare.

I think Baucus represented Montana well. I wish him the best.

Die hard partisans hate elected officials who vote the wishes of their constituents instead of the party line all the time.

How did ecofarm make a quote from I didn't post?
At least the post does not show up as a real one?

I do not know. But what I was getting at I respect any elected official who votes the way their constituents wishes regardless of which party they belong to. Our elected officials may run as a Republican or Democrat, but they are elected to represent the people of their district and state before party. I think Baucus did this. Montana is not New York or New Jersey.

And Schweitzer will be a better candidate for "today's" Montana.
Didn't Baucus vote for Obamacare?
And he is doing poorly in polls.
If states can pass laws to term limit state officials, the fed should be able to do the same thing.
There are plenty more 6-termers who need to go now, especially McConnell.

Yes he did vote for Obamacare and that may be one of the reasons he decided to retire. He has tried to distance himself from it, apparently it didn't work. But Tester also voted for Obamacare and it didn't hurt him last year. But the Republicans picked a not too popular guy to run against him.

Besides McConnell, Reid also has to go. Both put their party way above the nation. Our elected officials are suppose to be Americans before being Republicans and Democrats. But this fact is lost on the vast majority of our elected officials.

Baucus your kid brother or boyfriend or something? You can't seem to talk about the guy.

Try post #16.
Baucus is not a Democrat.
He is the worst type of politician.
