Authorities are hunting for suspects after shooting broke out during a massive marijuana celebration in Denver, leaving two people with gunshot wounds.

The gunfire scattered thousands attending Saturday's 4/20 counterculture holiday, the first since Colorado legalized marijuana.

A man and a woman each suffered non-life threatening gunshot wounds, officials said. Local media reports said a third person was grazed.

Denver Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said investigators are looking for one or two suspects, asking festival attendees for possible photo or video of the shootings.

He said police had no motive for the gunfire.

Witnesses described a scene in which a jovial atmosphere quickly turned to one of panic at the downtown Civic Center Park just before 5 p.m. Several thought firecrackers were being set off, then a man fell bleeding, his dog also shot.

The annual pot celebration this year was expected to draw as many as 80,000 people after recent laws in Colorado and Washington made marijuana legal for recreational use.

Rapper Lil' Flip was performing when the shootings occurred.

in other news, there were thousands of bar fights last night.

pot generally does make people more relaxed and peaceful. one data point does not a trend make.

I agree, but not everyone who smokes pot is peaceful.

I'd bet anything some gangbangers showed up and a deal went bad.

Gangbangers are responsible for 90% of shootings. Those wanna b tough guys settle their disputes with bullets rather than fists or words... Gangbangers are ****ing chimpanzees.

Yeah... I read that... It is funny. Then again it is difficult to understand what is happening when you're at a protest or "gathering" with thousands of people.

That many people - violence is bound to happen. They're lucky they only suffered one such incident, in other times there have been a lot more in regard to just winning a baseball gaem.

I've been to some big Tea Party protests and nothing got out of hand. Lots of debates.... Not to mention we were continually provoked with violence (or threats of violence) from the opposition (progressives)...

I wonder what would happen if you gather 80,000 people together in one spot for the express purpose of celebrating the re-legalization of alcohol.
 
Too many government sanctioned predators in today's society for a bunch of children of all ages to get together for a public stoning and not expect to be victimized.

Gunfire is not a regular part of the average NFL game where more than 80,000 are all in one place..

Well... unless it's Oakland.
