Boston Marathon bombing suspect caught after day-long manhunt

WATERTOWN, Massachusetts (Reuters) - Police captured a 19-year-old man suspected of carrying out the Boston Marathon bombings with his older brother after a day-long manhunt on Friday that closed down the city and turned a working-class suburb into a virtual armed camp.
They found him hiding in a boat in someone's driveway, which leads me to make the following statement:

Someone is unclear on the concept of boats. They are useless as a getaway vehicle unless they are in the water. In the driveway, not so good.

    Article is here.

I actually thought that hiding place with pretty clever. Had we not been so diligent in asking for people's help and publicized the hell out of law enforcement's ongoing efforts to capture this guy, that property owner may have never walked back to his boat and noticed blood, pulled the tarp back and called police.

I think law enforcement did an absolutely outstanding job of maximizing "the power of the people." We couldn't have asked for more. They are to be heartily commended.

Hopefully, the way they handled this national (albeit local) emergency will become a template for the future.

Locking down a city because of 2 people is ludicrous. It's letting the terrorists win.

Does it really look like these two brothers won?

Locking down the city prevented an escape of the criminal by blending in with "the crowd".

"Letting the terrorists win" is a handy slogan and means nothing. The terrorists only win if they keep killing innocent people. Not if innocents do what they can to catch their sorry asses. Further, they didn't lock down the city. They asked people to stay home.

    I disagree.

I disagree. You are forgetting that terrorism is not just killing innocents but for political purpose. If that political purpose is achieved, they have won.

Further, they didn't lock down the city. They asked people to stay home.
I have not personally investigated the claims of "orders" and "lock downs". I'm not sure just what exactly was enacted, but I can tell you the result: Boston was turned into a ghost town for a day by two people, causing the loss of millions of dollars in business and massive inconvenience for a million people. If that's how it's gonna work, I'm pretty sure I could shut down half the major cities in the US with less than a company of men.

We're just going to have to disagree on this one. The terrorists hardly won. If you think they did, I think you need a new yardstick.

2 people turning a city into a ghost town for a day is pretty good work in my book. As I noted, with a company of men I could cripple the US if that's how it's gonna go.
