Oh I think it's perfectly clear. Although not conclusive, one cannot deny that disallowing gay men from being scout masters ended molestation in the boy scouts. Is that a little more clear?

Now the real question is how odd that this happened? Why do you suppose molestation of young boys ended? Sure they instituted other policies, that's why I said one cannot completely draw definitive conclusions that it was ONLY about gay men, but it sure is odd. As odd I imagine as allowing straight men as scout masters of young girls. Common sense says it's probably not a good idea.. Wouldn't you agree?

    Tim-
Only 1 huh? I think this says differently.

Tracking decades of allegations in the Boy Scouts - Spreadsheets - Los Angeles Times

Most of the cases were opened in the late eighties/early nineties.

Plus, you can't prove that most, but particularly not all, of the boys molested before that were molested by gay men. Most states had sodomy laws prior to 1980 which meant it was illegal in most states to be openly gay so it is unlikely that an openly gay man would have been a scout leader. I'm willing to bet that most of those who were molesting those scouts were in marriages with women, and even had children and many likely even condemned homosexuality. Pedophiles are not deemed heterosexual or homosexual by what sex/gender of child they molest.

I don't recall how old one can still be in the Boy Scouts as a member, but I'm going to make an assumption here just the same. I don't remember anyone in my class carrying on with it past middle school, anecdotally.

So anyway, if you're a Boy Scout, you shouldn't be engaging in sex with anyone anyway. Kind of obvious, really.

You don't have to be having sex with anyone to know which sex/gender you are attracted to.

How would anyone know the sexual preferences of a prepubescent anyway, and given that there's no activity attached to it, why should any organization, even this one, care?

I mean, as a private organization it's their prerogative, but this all seems silly.

No gay adult males, no gay molestation of children. That's just weird..

    Tim-
That is not correct. There were molestation charges brought up last year for events that happened in 2003-2008.
The "no gay policy" was put in place in 1993 I believe.

I agree. What is happening is those few who stick with scouts into their teenage years and come out during that time are being stripped of their badges/titles/ability to participate because they told people that they are attracted to their own gender, they are gay.

From what I read, the policy started to be enforced (as in people being kicked out for being openly gay) in 1980, but officially stated in 1991.
