Breaking: Police officer shot at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – A police officer was shot at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Thursday night.

According to MIT's official Twitter account, gunshots were reported near building 32 on the school's campus around 10:48 p.m.

Mass. State Police say the victim was a campus police officer. They were transported to Mass. General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police responded to the scene and have the area cordoned off.

MIT is asking students to stay clear of the area and say the situation is considered dangerous.

The search for a suspect or suspects is ongoing.

An investigation is underway.

CNN is also reporting it. It says the officer is dead apparently.

(CNN) -- A university police officer has died after being shot on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology campus in Cambridge late Thursday, according to state police.
Police and the FBI responded to reports of gunshots at Building 32, according to MIT, which posted a message on its Twitter account. Officers surrounded and cordoned off the building.The university, which lies adjacent to the city of Boston, requested people stay away from the building as police consider the situation still active and dangerous.
Students and faculty received e-mails to alert them to the event, CNN affiliate WCVB reported.

Related? University police officer was in the wrong place at the wrong time and perhaps got close to suspects related to bombing? Who knows?

MIT officer died while cops were chasing the two responsible for the Marathon bombing. One of the son of bitches died too though.
