The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks...[W: 349]

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

I said the mentality of a person who would want to own such a weapon is questionable. Yes.

The mentality of someone, who would question the mentality of a law abiding American owning a semi automatic weapon with cosmetic adjustments, is Highly Suspect

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

Hi Paul! I agree with that statement. If the bill had passed the democratically controlled senate we would have endured endless whining about the GOP house not passing it in the house. Politicizing all the way! Geaux Tigers!

Good afternoon dns. I hadn't noticed you around here before. I'm sure you'll be watching the A-Day this weekend...

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

What "Freedom" are you asking me to give up? Freedom to be free of a background check? Wow......next thing you know, we might have to go through a metal detector at the airport.

Can you define, in short and concise terms, just who is/will be placed onto the federal "no gun" list used for NICS BG checks? Will it include any current "legal" gun owners? My objection to "the list" is that two citizens, convicted of exactly the same criminal offense(s) may well have gotten different sentences, thus one gets "no gun for life" added to that (decades old?) DWI/marijuana possession sentence well after the chance of appealing that conviction has passed.

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

You have been listening too much to your militia buddies who think that the scary government is out to get them.

The only thing I've been listening to is history.

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

And how often has it occurred? Do you really believe that smoking one joint leads to heroin addiction? Not everything in life is a slippery slope.

No, but the attempt to curtail gun ownership happens to be a very slippery slope.

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

No. Only that there are a lot of cowards in the Senate that haven't a backbone to stand up to the NRA and the gun lobby. But we've known that for a long time. Congress is full of spineless idiots who are afraid of their own shadow.
It doesn't make a person a coward to tread all over the rights of citizens.

BTW, it is not the NRA! The NRA is just an instrument we who wish to continue privately own our firearms use to fend off the paranoid gun control nuts.

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

So the NRA is stronger than the President. Glad you admitted that. Maybe Obama and the liberals can actually try real bipartisanship. Until then, they lost.
All I can say is, relative to gun control, I am very glad the GOP controls the house and also that we even have a few sane democrats (I am a democrat) who chose to tell Obama to go pedal his progressiveness elsewhere.

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

In many ways Yes. That's one of the things that is wrong with this Country. Our Congress is so afraid of Special Interest Lobbies that they often vote against the will of the people and/or the interests of America because they lack the backbone to stand up for what is right.
Wrong! One of the things that IS ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ABOUT THIS COUNTRY is the ability for people to get together to prevent the government from removing our rights. The NRA is doing our bidding, not the other way around. I keep my dues up to date.

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

I was in ENgland right before Dunblane. Gun haters said the same thing there too. Same in NJ when they passed registration of "assault wepaons".

part of the incremental strategy of banning guns is for gun haters to only support the "NEXT REASONABLE STEP"

I suspect when people like me complained about the NYS limitations years ago, you denied that a ten round limit was a stepping stone to 7 round limits

guess what-no one believes you or those who make such claims anymore. We have seen too many politicians demand more and more restrictions every time they can find enough blood to oil the path towards confiscation
Correct! It is called incrementalism.Daily Kos: How to Ban Guns: A step by step, long term process

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

you don't help your stealth campaign at all by denying the obvious

nice ploy but it doesn't wor

your leftwing masters like DIFI and Chuckie have revealed their hands

gun bans, confiscation, punitive taxes, expensive registration requirements have all been supported

and yet you bleat that its not true and all your lords and overlords want is mere waiting periods

ignorance of history is not sound

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

Wow dude...you are sounding severely paranoid. Do you belong to one of those militia movement groups?
All able bodied men of the proper age are part of the well regulated militia:
10 USC § 311 - Militia: composition and classes
a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are—
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

Take a breath. No one is talking about confiscation. Relax. Not everything in life is a slippery slope. Are you one of those that think that smoking a joint leads to heroin addiction too?
Gun control is a slippery slope, thus we fight every little attempt to chip away at our constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms.

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

Yes, Yes, My god, YES!!!

There still is a shred of hope yet for this country...

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

I can say only that in 2008, I thought my son was one of those paranoid "gun nuts" as he carried on about all of this--the ammo being stripped from the shelves or being obscenely overpriced. I realize now, however, that he was prescient.

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

I said the mentality of a person who would want to own such a weapon is questionable. Yes.
I question the mentality of anyone who wants to infringe my 2nd amendment rights.

I agree!

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

Incrementalism is in the mind of every left winger who supports even "just a little" gun control. Daily Kos: How to Ban Guns: A step by step, long term process I don't believe any "progressive" who says, I don't want to eliminate private ownership of firearms."

Thank you for the evidence that BELIEF is a powerful motivator and can even overcome fact.

Working on four out of five this year, but we'll be the targeted game for every opponent this year once again. The offense may have to carry the defense...

Re: The Senate has defeated a compromise proposal to expand background checks on fire

Which exists entirely in your own head since by your own admission there is no such thing in that bill. Such fears of things which are not there are normally filed under the category of paranoia.

We're not paranoid if they're really out to get us, haymarket.

We can see what the philosophical brethren of these legislators have done in certain states (MA, NY, CA, IL, etc....). We can see what their cousins have done in other countries. We can hear what their supporters talk about wanting. It's not like these concerns come out of nowhere.
