Not for the State of Illinois. Although wages up here are generally higher than they are with other states. Plus up here I am sure they will charge more. I would be worried about those states that want to phase it out.

WHat if they made the test taker pay it? Could you not have afforded $120?

Well, up here they do make the test taker pay for it. I would do what is necessary to take the test knowing one has more doors opened to them with a Diploma or a GED. But what does that have to do with states that want to get rid of the test altogether?

Because they are doing it based on price. WHen the price doesnt seem like much at all. They could simply pass the fee on to takers if they dont want to pay for it.

I would agree with you.....why stop the opportunity for people to better themselves. Hell set up billing and take payments. But don't just get rid of it. Even if the Price was like 250 dollars. One would have to ask is it worth the 250. One time fee to open job opportunities and or further education for oneself. IMO even that amount would be worth it.

I imagine you can still take the test at a VUE Pearson center even without getting it through the govt. Isnt it a standard test now?

I am not sure. Although from what I make of it I guess some states it is different. Although the piece did say they were coming up with a new test due to math and science standards. I am not certain if it is Universal.

Truth be told, it's probably less expensive to just pay the fee out-of-pocket, than to pay for all the formalities and ceremony-related stuff for a graduation.

$120 in and of itself is not outrageous. Might even be a deal, in fact. But, $120 as a 100% increase from $60*, is a big deal. The sense that I get from the article is that the increase is driven from a new company that bought in and wants to increase their footprint. All computer, no pencil/paper, new company's resources, shareholder concerns, etc. They're adding process without adding value.

*- Using rounded numbers from the article. Grasp the concept for the purposes of discussion, don't get hung up on the exact numbers.
