Virginia man gets seven years in prison for stealing Obama

President Obama’s teleprompter may be more valuable than even his biggest critics claim. After all, a man who stole Obama’s teleprompter was sentenced to seven years in federal prison."The theft of government property is a serious offense," Assistant U.S. Attorney Roderick Young said during Virginia resident Eric Brown’s sentencing hearing. "It's all the more serious when the property belongs to the White House Communications Agency."

Brown, 49, agreed to the lengthy sentence in order to avoid being prosecuted for 14 other truck thefts, according to NBC News. Virginia sentencing guidelines stipulated a prison term of about three years for the theft of government property.

The AP later includes: "As Obama did not have his teleprompter present, he did not comment on the matter."

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

That man is my hero, will post pics of the shrine when I'm done constructing it.

I imagine Obama's reunion with his precious teleprompter was akin to Linus getting his blanket back after it was being washed.

Actually, he was going to get 27 years for truck theft but they gave him a 20 year discount for the teleprompter gag.

(No facts were harmed in the making of this statement)

7 years seems excessive for something that obviously had political rather than financial motivations.

Auto (or truck) theft is a felony. The 7 years is actually merciful.

[Sarcasm]What an excellent use of government resources.[/sarcasm]

See the post above yours. Just what exactly is wrong with using government money to incarcerate criminals?

He was a career thief. And there is no indication that there was a political motivation to steal the truck.

Most likely he's going to get out on parole in a few years and then go steal some more trucks until he gets caught again.

he got into the wrong line of theft. I'd recommend banking / derivatives.

Because OBAMA BAD!

So you feel that political crimes are less of an offense than economic crimes. Do you fit violent crimes somewhere in the middle?

"What are you in for?"
"Rape."
What about you?"
"Murder."
"And finally, you?"
"Oh, well, I stole President Obama's teleprompter."

Federal Time is hard time and there is no parole. You get about 10-% off for good behavior but that's about it. He might be doing State time, it's not clear from the article. Either way, his sentence was light and an obvious plea bargain.

Yes, the property of the White House Communications Agency is sacrosanct. :lamo
