Note: I would like to see background checks strictly enforced. However, if that comes at the expense of banning certain weapons, then I am not in favor of this bill.
So, you are admitting your original post was incorrect.

It's just like Rand Paul telling black history students that the NAACP was started by Republicans. They think they are being smart and come off as ignorant hicks. I have nothing against them except when they try to be "smart".

I'de really like to do something about the fellas that come down here to Fl. and load their trunks up with guns and sell them in every major city in the North but no..... that's too big a market I guess.
Hate to break this to you, but Rand Paul was correct.

What were you saying about "ignorant hicks"?

Please, please, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me you do NOT believe "universal background checks" will prevent this hallucinated scenario! BTW, this "private gun dealer", where is he getting his guns?? Also, if he's going to this extreme to sell a gun, the transaction is already ILLEGAL, count on it.

When's the last time you bought a firearm at a gun show??????????????? PLEASE don't tell me about the law. Are you an exhibitor at a gun show? Do you hold an FFL???

As per the internet, when's the last time you BOUGHT a gun over the internet??????? Again, don't make statements that are inaccurate. Low information voters are great at same.

Based on the revisionist history taught at today's universities, I would not be at all surprised if they did not know it. In any case, certainly doesn't hurt to remind them of the facts.

Nope. My original post is about background checks being needed at gun shows. My last post says that, at this time, INDIVIDUALS are NOT required to do background checks at gun shows. What don't you understand about that?

LOL. The Senators being the people. If anything the House is the people since the represent the proportionally the US population.

    Let me see...

    1) An overwhelming majority of the population wants background checks.

    2) Background checks will never pass the House. The House leadership has said so.

    Nice representation..... NOT!

Re: Senate overcomes filibuster, votes to open debate on gun bill

I really really dislike the way filibusters are used to stifle discussion. In fact, I really don't like them being part of the process at all. I like them as grand gestures, where the person actually gets up and talks for the whole time. Those bring attention to the issue and can get people talking about it. The recent filibuster by Rand Paul was actually really good. But then it's time to discuss and vote. Hopefully public opinion can then reach out and inform the way the vote will go. But mechanisms to make congress not do anything... I really don't like that. So I'm glad that this discussion can take place.

For the most part, I agree with Danarhea's positions. The point is to keep the crazies and the crooks from getting weapons. The point is not to strip legal gun owners of their rights or property. That means some regulation, and requiring documentation and process of gun transactions is a good way to do that. It means that the sane, law abiding citizens can still buy guns, and the crazies and crooks can't. I don't see a downside.
