According to the 4th Geneva Convention, you are either a member of a country's military, or you are a Combatant posing as a civilian, or you are a civilian. Armed police are not members of a country's military. Police units are not sent to other countries to conduct war for the United States. US Police units do not operate under Title 32 or Title 10 United States Code. Therefor under international law police are Civilians.

I was formally briefed on what is and is not a "civilian" by the US Army in preparation for deployment, during deployment, and in cretin briefs for domestic civil emergencies, as it relates to warfare, detainment, and treatment of EPWs. A link to TheFeeDictionary.com, the least credible of all dictionaries in the world, does not counter that.

ask any US attorney, Assistant United States Attorney or FBI special agent and all of them will tell you that they are CIVILIANS. the pay schedule is a civilian pay scale as well. the retirement system "FERS" is the same as other CIVILIAN employees.

Since 'civilians' and public safety are being discussed it should be noted that the stabber was ultimately subdued by civilians...the students. Come to think of it, Jared Loughner was also subdued by civilians so for that one guy who keeps on arguing that civilians never stopped a mass shooter...guess what!

I was opposite as well, teaching my sons to always stand up for themselves, and stand up for decency. I told them never to start a fight, but to sure as hell fight back against aggression.

I used the word as it is defined, not by the Geneva Conventions, but by americans

Besides, mass murderers don't follow the Geneva Conventions

They just weren't in class that day, I guess.
That's just all the nuts popping off, not people reacting appropriately to aggression.
