    I'll add an eighth point:

She perpetuated the Troubles in Northern Ireland by banning free speech and dispensing with democracy, unconstitutionally banning the democratically-elected representatives of the Catholic community from taking their seats in Westminster.
The Irish leadership and the IRA meet Thatcher halfway on any and all wrongdoings that have only aggravated the situation there.

I'm not aware with the specifics of what you talk about the Catholic community, but I will inform myself. I cannot say for certain whether this has any justification or not, so far. You are entitled to your opinion however, and I shall seek for information.

I don't need a chill pill, Jet. I've got an excellent bottle of Gran Reserva Rioja popped. It's party time!

To all four of you. If you want to discuss her legacy politically, start a thread. I always thought RIP threads were supposed to be respectful.

Jetboogieman: its politics. So partisanship is there no matter what you want to label it.
Higgins86: You are assuming I dont know. This is rather ignorant of you.
Andalublue: dunno, didnt see the thread or comment on it. Was pretty busy at that point
Moon: Maybe further than I would have gone, but sort of.

Coming from Germany, I mostly remember Thatcher as the woman who, without any necessity whatsoever, opposed German reunification. Her failiure to stop it is what she saw as the greatest defeat of her political life.

Well, it's over. Along the former inner German border, in the area between Kassel and Eisenach, there is a strip of land where nothing has been built since the fences, walls, and watch towers were torn down. Today it's basically a long stretched clearing in the middle of the forest, with wild flowers and bushes growing.

If I have the time, I'll get some flowers there and take them to her grave.

    RIP Prime Minister.

Unlike some of the people in this thread I was lucky enough to see her at work.

    An amazing lady.

If you want vitriolic and hateful, look at what Brits are saying on Twitter. This is subdued condolences by comparison.

Word. I started this thread and it isn't an RIP thread, it's a BIH thread. All opinions welcome.

Yes, my relatives in England were involved in mining, although thankfully most of them had gotten out of it. She will not be mourned in the former mining areas of the UK.
