And again, making Plan B OTC for females under 17 says nothing about their sexual activity aside from acknowledging that it happens.
And when it happens, parents or someone responsible should be made aware so that they can talk to this child and find out why and what is going on in this child's life. THAT is the responsible thing to do. Not to send her to the pharmacy for some pills to prevent a pregnancy. Pregnancy is only PART of the problem. When things like this are going on, parents now have even LESS opportunity to be involved in a meaningful way in their children's lives.

They should have made a minimum age for this. I wonder how many here also support abortions at "any" age?

Edit to add: Abortions at any age WITHOUT parental knowledge and consent.

A 9, 10 or 11-year-old can. You are aware that some girls start menstruating (which means they can become pregnant) as young as age 8 and 9 years old?

What's left out of the discussion is the relationship between the young woman and who had intercourse with her. It's quite possible she was raped by an older man or older relative and too embarrassed to tell her parents or maybe it was an older classmate or even someone from her class at school who forced her. Do we really believe that all 13yr old girls or young teens have sexual intercourse willingly?

I hope there's some form of inquiry at the pharmacy when a young woman goes to purchase this pill.

Or under the pressure of their "older" boyfriends.

I disagree. The time for parents to take actions that prevent this from happening don't begin when the child engages in sex. It should happen long before that.

And allowing young females to buy this OTC does nothing to hinder a parents ability to be involved in their childs life in any way.

Fortunately, it is not up to YOU when parents decide to talk with their children and vice versa. It is completely their decision. They are the ones responsible for their children (or supposed to be anyway). Whether or not they did not talk with their children before sex happens does NOT take away their rights to know what their minor children are doing (who THEY are responsible for in every single way). Do you understand that?

It most certainly does, if only for the fact that if the child had to go to the parent, then the parent is made aware of what is happening. That is just plain common sense. A child who is in trouble should go to their parent or another elder that they trust, but they shouldn't be left to their own devices to solve such complicated, life-changing problems.

That's not the point, the point is why are 8 year olds having sex?

And it's not up to the pharmacist or the govt either.

And parents do not have a right to know when their children legally purchase an OTC medication.

Wrong. With or without this knowledge, the parents should be talking about such matters to their children and building the sort of trusting relationship with their child that would encourage the child to be open with her parents.

LOL! I'm willing to BET that you don't have any children. It's obvious that you know very LITTLE about children and teenagers and how they tick.
