SKorea: North Korea moved missile to east coast

My Way News - SKorea: North Korea moved missile to east coast

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - North Korea has moved a missile with "considerable range" to its east coast, South Korea's defense minister said Thursday, but he added that there are no signs that Pyongyang is preparing for a full-scale conflict.

The report came hours after North Korea's military warned that it has been authorized to attack the U.S. using "smaller, lighter and diversified" nuclear weapons. It was the North's latest war cry against America in recent weeks. The reference to smaller weapons could be a claim that Pyongyang has improved its nuclear technology. Or a bluff.

...Hecker has estimated that North Korea has enough plutonium to make several crude nuclear bombs. Its announcement Tuesday that it would restart a plutonium reactor indicated that it intends to produce more nuclear weapons material.
The missile in question is thought to have a range of about 3000 km, which puts US bases in Japan and S. Korea in range. Kim Jong Un has been dialing up the heat on an almost daily basis, and there is all sorts of speculation as to what it means, including the idea that Un might not be in control of his military.

I can understand war from Kim's perspective - going out on top is the most important thing for a god-king. But the military? How does it help them to get obliterated. I do not see the same motivation for the military that I see for Kim; I bet they just want 3 hots and a cot. Further, I find the idea that Kim-2 kept the military from going nuts all those years to be a ludicrous proposal.

I dunno...at first I was willing to dismiss this all as the usual DPRK saber rattling, but it's been going on for awhile and it's been escalating, to the point where Sec. State Kerry has had to tell them to knock it off with the threats.

It's likely that DPRK is playing the game of brinksmanship to an extreme this time as Un tries to build his own reputation as Korean despot, stepping out of his father and grandfather's shadow. But I wonder if the threats against the U.S. are an overture to military action against South Korea, as a way of telling the U.S. not to get involved when they do whatever it is they are planning to do.

I think that's the key right there. Understanding the psychology behind the behavior is essential.

This might not make it any easier to deal with, mind you, but if he is seeking to outshine his predecessors, one way to do so is to put the belicose words into action. That's what worries me.

i still don't think the intention is an actual launch, but this ****ing asshole has ratcheted up tensions to the point where full scale war could erupt over a border guard flipping the bird to a soldier across the DMZ.

i truly hope we don't get dragged into yet another ****ing war. we've been at war for most of my adult life. enough is enough.

There really are only two possibilities. Kim is STILL not getting rewarded for his antics so he keeps upping the ante hoping any minute now the world and especially the US will step in, make him relevant, and buy him off. OR...he is hoping his extremism will cause the Chinese to step in on his behalf and force the same results. OR...he is hoping his antics will be seen as SO above the board that the Chinese and Russians offer him a nice sweetheart deal complete with a retirement package somewhere with a beach and fruity drinks. He has been in charge long enough by now to realize just what a ****ty job it is to be the leader of North Korea. I don't think he wants a lifetime of it.

I hear you. The problem is troll doll jr needs a way to back out of this so he'll save face among his subjects.

He's gone so far to the extreme its not going to be easy for him to ratchet down his current build up.

I dont think a North Korean Conflict would be an extended conflict anyway.

There is a lot of talk about this just being a bluff to force west to lift sanctions etc. But what if Un actually thinks that North Korea is now a world nuclear superpower after the succesful launch of the rocket a couple of months ago? I really hope we have not underestimated NK's stupidity and ego.

Way I hear it the North doesn't receive outside news so he can declare victory anytime he wants.

I see this as a continuing escalation of the same ol' crap. Throw a big fit and the big 3 make promises of help that never quite live up to the agreement which sets off another tantrum. Problem is each time the tantrum has to be bigger or the threat isn't very effective.

best I can figure is he needs another hand out and will scream loud and long in hopes of getting it. Hopefully one day the Roosians and Chinese will figure out North Korea does nothing for them and the crap needs to end.
