Oh, I think he is quite capable of curing cancer, but swearing off golf? Guiding WH tours? No way he would ever do that.

    Empty gesture is empty.
He can't "make" congress do anything. Article 1; US Constitution.

Because it's an empty and meaningless gesture.

Obama is twice the leader that Bloomberg is as mayor of NY; therefore, Obama should be paid double what Bloomberg gets from New York City.

How much fail does this idea have? It doesn't show solidarity because he is one of the people who cannot do their job and get a proper budget passed to pay people. It could be done a million times over and still would not be one percent of a trillion dollars. Obama will not have any problem paying his bills because the country won't let the power be turned out in the white house. Oh, and it will rightfully not get republicans to cut him a break. Great, it is the Rand Paul gesture.

In related news... Obama holds press conference announcing he will buy his own toilet paper - an unprecedented gesture, sacrifice, and display of solidarity with those forced to do the same in these difficult times.

I really don't understand why anybody is attacking the president over this. As much as they have been telling us to sacrifice: pay more taxes, tighten our belts, learn to deal with budget cuts, ect. At least some figures in office are stepping up to the plate and making sacrifices themselves.

It's really perplexing to see some many of you complaining about this, when everybody in office should be doing it.
Though I would love to see the salaries of the legislature and executive slashed like old easter candy in june, that is not the area where we need to slash. We need to reign imn the military. I just read an article where the nave has commissioned 37 billion worth of boats it says are too lightly armored and have too few weapons to be useful in war. Yet they will just keep on going with these because we will give the military any budget it wants to pay lockheed. We could stop fighting for freedom in countries that will elect leadership who hate us. Hell, we could stop fighting wars for other countries all together. We could probably save social security by jumping all over disability and kicking healthy people who can work off the disabled list. We could adjust things like TANF to not give out cash benefits to drive people to get a job if they want bling. We could stop the buy a friend program, or as they call it foreign aid to ungrateful countries who hate us. We could legalize gay marriage and create a revenue generating industry across the country. We could save lots of money by legalizing drugs and prostitution because we wouldn't have to imprison those people anymore, we wouldn't end up paying them welfare because they could report their income, and we could get tax revenue from them. Or we could ask that the president and congress actually do their job and pass a budget that is responsible and avoids furloughs because it is the job we elected them for and pay them way too much to do in the first place.

All those things would generate savings and revenue literally millions of times greater than Obama's little gesture.

I don't mind him golfing but golfing with Tiger outside of the DC area is quiet dumb. There are perfectly good courses in the area. You have Penn National, Andrews, The Links and so forth I am sure Tiger would forgo many of the tourny's he skips to play with the President locally.
