Facebook: Marriage issue prompts 2.7 million profile picture updates

I was told that if I took a stand against SSM and for traditional marriage I would be attacked. That I would be called an intolerant bigot. That people would hate me. Well this thread is a testament to that. Tomorrow I turn 53 and all I can say is people have changed significantly in my lifetime. I have witnessed the breakdown of the family, the rise of the welfare state, moral decline, the failure of our education system, people turning from god, and now same sex marriage. I wonder if I will live to see the end of civilization?
 
There's nothing inherently wrong with intolerance.

All life discriminates and discerns between what is useful and what is useless. It is impossible to live, or, at least, impossible to live tastefully, without choosing what to associate with one's self and what to reject. What is essential, however, is being intolerant in the right way.

Since by a strange coincidence 2000 years is how long Christianity has been around.
Taoism predates christianity and has no problem with SSM.
Marriage itself predates christianity by thousands of years,and has been practiced in various forms by other religions since that time.
Christianity does not own,hold title,have the copyright to or the patent on the concept of "marriage".
The "jury may be still out",but I predict they will return a verdict of "innocent on all charges".

There is much to worry about. The fate of humanity and Gods judgement etc. I am ready to be judged, I will stand my ground for my beliefs. And I believe I am right.

yup, sorry I don't feel terrible about telling you that your attempt to harm others through legislating away their benefits and insulting their love is something i am completely fine with not tolerating and attacking. Are you just mad because you thought everyone should have just let you get away with that tirade of hateful crap you put in the OP? If you cannot take the heat then don't be a hater. yeah, if you are right about the afterlife your god is not fond of the haters so you will be traveling with me. This is why I made reservations. last thing you want to find out as a christian is you pissed away your life for a trip to hell, and you have to ride coach. I am not being intolerant, it is god who is intolerant. I almost hope you are right just so you can explain that sentiment before god himself.
 
I don't know why anyone's surprised that a Christian should feel self-pity at this.

Christianity is a martyr religion. Its central figure is a voluntary suicide. Where the classical religions of Europe were predominantly warrior religions, the Abrahamic faith have enshrined self-abnegation as the highest moral value on this Earth. Christianity encourages self-persecution. And it seems like Christians are constantly looking to push the rest of us into persecuting them - because, in their eyes, that will put them in the moral right.

Don't mean to correct you,but it isn't "God" that is intolerant.
It is SgtRocks(and other like him) interpretation of God that is intolerant.
SgtRock does not own "God".
He does not hold the intellectual property to "God".
He does not hold the copyright to "God".
Nobody on this planet does.

His beliefs about the Supreme is his and other who choose to believe the same way he does.
Maybe God should hold a press conference and clarify his stance on SSM,instead of relying on people like Sgt Rock.

As a Texan, I strongly believe that if gays want to get married, it's none of my business. If the government can dictate what they do with their personal lives, the government can dictate what I do with mine.

So leave Texas out of it, as though the Lone Star State has anything to do with the topic.

And they don't own God.
Until God has a press conference and clarifies things,how God is,what he likes and dislikes,is only their opinion.
