Well... no. You mean it was proposed when Bush was president? It will take a DEMOCRAT Senate and DEMOCRAT president for it to become law.

I support the labeling, because I want an informed public, but mainly I just don't want a ruthless private company to have that much power.
    Aren't all private companies "ruthless"?

We don't garden for food nor do 99% of people. Even those who do still buy food from grocery stores - and those genetically modified crops not just be in the fresh vegetable section, but in all process foods, all foods served in schools and restaurants and the feed for cattle, chickens and pigs - for which exactly everyone will be consuming them - even home gardeners.

No, I was replying to the other guy that was trying to pin the bill signed yesterday on Bush. I wasn't saying that at all. Although I am pretty confident that Bush and all the politicians in office during his reign catered to Monsanto and other large corporations just as much as the current politicians are today.

It will take a DEMOCRAT Senate and DEMOCRAT president for it to become law.
When it comes to lining their pockets it will only take a SENATE and a PRESIDENT for corporations to get their way. Party won't matter.

The labeling and misconceptions in the food industry are atrocious. And in my opinion so is what we do to food for profit.

Yes, but I am more concerned about my ruthless public Government.

I could only hit the 'like' button once......

What still astounds me is how people accept the lack of information so blindly.....

Actually Monsanto is the average farmer's boogyman as well. The COOP used to sell cleaned bulk run wheat seed as 'common' or generic wheat to area farmers, mostly for winter pasture. It is a mix of every type stored at the elevator. Because it was a blend of varieties with differing ripening times and stalk lengths it wasn't desirable for grain production.

Monsanto got a court ruling declaring if ANY of the bulk seed was theirs they could sue for patent infringement. That has effectively shut down a good source of seed for winter pasturage as well as revenue for the local economy.

So they ain't on my Christmas card list these days...

There IS something wrong when your GMO corn contaminates my organic corn and they successfully sue you for stealing their imtellectual property.

Then theres the whole patenting heirloom plants and declaring THEM yoir intellectual property.

Unfortunately, the government can't be expert at everything and consequently is sometimes forced to rely on industry to provide particular knowledge. There's a double-edged sword there, because leaving it completely to industry sometimes you get favoritism and sometimes the right answer, and leaving it to the government experts you get the right answer and sometimes a $500 hammer. But the government relies on industry for expertise a lot more than you think. Who builds the aircraft carriers, aircraft and tanks? You know who. And then you have government engineers watching what they are doing.
