Colo. theater shooting suspect offers guilty plea

I say take the guilty plea and give him life in prison. Justice will be served.
 
Dood was never 'insane'. He planned the event, coordinated it, could express clear intent, devised an escape strategy, plotted a booby trap at his apartment designed to kill as many as he could. He was reasoned and rational and made clear choices. Evil intent does not make one insane.

That's a show, put on for the court in case they don't take the plea deal. His lawyers have already announced that if the prosecution doesn't go for the plea deal, that they're going to go for an insanity defense.

Eiher way, the notion that these clowns aren't afraid of dieing isn't entirely accurate.

I say refuse the plea, blow his insanity defense out of the water and send his ass to the gas chamber and let it be known to all the other goofy asses that might do this that the same fate awaits them.

Death penalty isn't a deterrent. There will always be more mentally ill idiots who want to do this kind of crap.

James Holmes doesn't seem to want to go to the gas chamber. He already knew that the chances of getting the death penalty were slim.

Less than 5% of murders are committed that could be deemed as suffering from mental illness.
And that doesn't count how many of that 5% commit suicide.

The bewilderment he displayed in court definitely looks like he could be mentally ill.

The death penalty is an absolute deterrent to at least one individual.

Actually in many of these recent rampages all the guns were acquired legally. Gun control would work.

I admittedly don't know a lot about your legal system/penalties, but from what I've seen and heard about this man, the court should not accept any guilty plea and he should be tried and found not guilty due to mental illness and committed to an mental institution for the rest of his life, not a prison. A prison is not the place for such an ill person.

He needs to go to the gas chamber. He sane enough to know that he doesn't want to get the death penalty. He's too sane to go to the funny farm and have a cakewalk for the rest of his life. Who knows, he might even get weekends off like John Hinkley.

You can't possibly believe this man is running his own defense. His court appointed attorneys are honor bound to seek what they believe is the most beneficial and vigorous defense they can muster. I believe in a society that doesn't murder or inhumanely punishes the mentally ill. We simply disagree.

No, he's not, but he has to sign off on any plea bargain that his lawyers offer to the court.

Fair enough - even some who are mentally ill are capable of signing on the dotted line when instructed to do so.

Until trial, we'll never know what the opinions of various mental health professionals are as it relates to his mental capacity. Considering the psychiatrist who was seeing him before this incident was so concerned about his mental health that she warned the university and considering his affectation since, I think there's a strong possibility this man is severely mentally ill.

In some cases, but this guy isn't as ready to die as some folks have made out, which means that he's not all that mentally ****ed up.
