Karl Rove: 'I Could' Imagine Next GOP Presidential Nominee Supporting Gay Marriage <-- hahaha

Fox News contributor and former Bush deputy chief of staff Karl Rove said this morning on "This Week" that he can imagine the next Republican nominee for the White House supporting gay marriage.

"I could," Rove said on the "This Week" roundtable.

Rove's comments came days after Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman, whom Mitt Romney considered as a running mate in the 2012 election, announced that he had shifted his position and supported gay marriage. The vast majority of Republicans in Congress do not support same-sex marriage. Portman is the only sitting senator in the GOP to support same-sex marriage.

Things could get real fun on the right over the next few years....

The amount of irony of Karl Rove giving an indirect endorsement to a GOP presidential candidate who will support same sex marriage while he fashioned the campaign of George W. Bush around social issues such as prohibiting same sex marriage may just be enough to crack the fault lines of the tectonic plates and cause the destruction of the planet Earth.

Re: Karl Rove: 'I Could' Imagine Next GOP Presidential Nominee Supporting Gay Marriag

I'd love to see a Republican Presidential nominee endorse same sex marriage.

The far right evangelicals will absolutely crap themselves.

Bryan Fischer and Tony Perkins will have a ****ing stroke.

Re: Karl Rove: 'I Could' Imagine Next GOP Presidential Nominee Supporting Gay Marriag

I thought the evangelicals would put the stop to Romney cause he is a cultist. I dont think they have the power they once did.

Haha... My sister said for the GOP to have success they need to support "gay marriage."

IMO, as a libertarian the government shouldn't recognize marriage. Marriage should be treated as contract law.

I will say I really do dislike gays that flaunt their homosexuality in public like it's somehow normal and are trying to make a political point or piss people off just to do it..

Sometimes I flaunt my hetro ness right out there in public.

I think Ken Mehlman also deserves a mention. A gay Republican who previously helped the right-wing's push on the DOMA issue, but now stands on the other side of the aisle.

I think Karl is simply recognizing some demographic shifts that the right-wing needs to address and change for. If not, it will cost them in the future.

I think we are seeing the beginning of a split in the republican party, perhaps even a viable third party. My belief is you'll have the republican party which will be democrat lite, and then you'll have a true conservative party who stand on principle and believe in small government. Right now the repubs are in a shambles and don't know what to stand for.

Except the Government regulates, engages in, and recognizes contract law.

back in my youth the same thing was said- wish they wouldn't flaunt their relationships in public, and try to make 'political' points...

That was interracial marriage, my how times have changed....

Oh I misread your post I thought you said you flaunt your "super heroness."

Anyways, back on topic -

IMO, homosexuality is unnatural. Not to mention we don't need to create an environment that says you can **** your friend of the same sex just because it's "cool" or odd...

The whole punk rock movement is a perfect example of my point - kids had mowhawks and **** just because it was different.. Kids do **** just because it's abnormal.

Typical people are way too susceptible to their environment.

Re: Karl Rove: 'I Could' Imagine Next GOP Presidential Nominee Supporting Gay Marriag

I think I completely agree with you. But I don't believe it is any of our business what they do, unless it has some sort of adverse affect on us. What adverse effect does same sex marriage have on me?

Contract law is contract law and marriage is (allegedly) contract but it's not - when it comes to marriage there are exceptions (which I hate BTW).

Laws shouldn't have exceptions.

No, the government doesn't regulate contract... There is such a thing called civil law (or in this case contract).

I was talking about public show of affection, or being as gay as possible just to prove to the world that an individual is gay in a belligerent manner.

I could care less what people do within the confines of their own homes or who they want to marry... People could marry a tree for all I care..

Go for it.

You'll split the Conservative vote just like the Conservatives did in the 90's in Canada and the Liberals held power for over 10 years (and produced 7 straight budget surpluses in a row by the way).

You mean make the GOP become so Liberal that it's just an arm of the Dumbfuque Party? Where would there be any distinction then?

Oh there is a massive fracture (actually a few) within the republican party...

I like it tho, at least we have brains and debate and exchange ideas amongst one another unlike the other side (progressives) that is totally cohesive on every issue. Debate is good - it's healthy...

Re: Karl Rove: 'I Could' Imagine Next GOP Presidential Nominee Supporting Gay Marriag

They are going to have to sooner or later. Times are changing and people are switching and changing their minds on the whole gay marriage "issue".

Have you ever kissed your girlfriend in public? It should be different for gays because.....?

Do you actually know any gay people, or is your knowledge limited to TV movies?

Of all the gay people I know, not one of them tries to act "as gay as possible."

I thought you weren't a Republican.

Re: Karl Rove: 'I Could' Imagine Next GOP Presidential Nominee Supporting Gay Marriag

I think about the same about both hetor or gay public displays of affection (unless it is two very hot women). I dont really want to watch otherwise.

I can see where you'd say all the above, but everything has exceptions, exemptions, and exclusions.

But the Government does step in on contract law, does all the time, what is or isn't allowed in a contract, everything from credit to buildings. Civil law, common law, are functions of the Government. Who enforces civil law?
