PCG is a private company that states pay to comb their welfare rolls and move as many people as possible onto disability.

Let's imagine that happens. Jahleel starts doing better in school, overcomes some of his disabilities. He doesn't need the disability program anymore. That would seem to be great for everyone, except for one thing: It would threaten his family's livelihood. Jahleel's family primarily survives off the monthly $700 check they get for his disability.

I found this quite an eye opening article. Quite a failure of our social security/welfare/disability system where private companies are cooking-the-books at the welfare office and children are being held back in order to receive disability benefits.

Perhaps, it's time for an overhaul of SS/disability?

It is time to jump on that gravy train! Get a sticker to park up front wherever you go, get yourself and the little woman both on the SSDI dole. That is about $26K per year, or over 150% of the federal poverty line, so living in rural south Texas you are about average. ;)

Gee when I talk about disability being welfare 2.0 people say I am just making it up or that just because it happens where I live does not mean that it happens other places or just because a few do it doesn't mean that it is the newest scam......someone is clearly making this story up.

You ARE making a blanket accusation and that is in fact, incorrect.

Then point out all the parts of my statement that are incorrect instead of throwing some blanket denial :)

When an unacceptable number of our population has become fat and stupid, it's no mystery why so many people are on disability. Our health care system is defunct, it's cheaper to buy junk food than real food thanks to subsidies, and with unions disappearing and proposals to slash minimum wage people have to work longer hours for the privilege of remaining poor.

You call it the gravy train, I call it the necessary outcome of a corporate slavery mentality. Just keep outsourcing the jobs and destroying worker rights, and more and more people will keep turning to the government tit.

But yeah... keep blaming the disenfranchised for being disenfranchised. In the land of America, ignorance is strength, and slavery is freedom.

Cool story bro. It would be a wonderful premise if it were true. Unfortunately, those clamoring to get on the disability roles aren't the disenfranchised workers and if you look at the root of their problem you are much more likely to find it in a family tree with very weak and shallow roots.

Perhaps you have not paid attention to the liberal zealots when welfare comes up. They know everything (allegedly)

Holy ****! Post of the month! Precisely, and succinctly stated.:clap:

As with most subjects, it is all rather complex. Nothing in life is all good or all bad, all right or all wrong.

I have to go to the store at the moment. But to begin with I think everyone needs to come to an agreement on what a disability is. The author of the OP doesn't know and that is obvious.

So you're blaming genetics for the reason why most people are on disability? Evidence to support this claim? (Hint: eugenicists don't count.)

Genetics... No. ****ty parents. Yes. Isn't it amaaaaaaaaazing how families that promote education and hardwork for the most part has successful children, even those immigrant families, legal or otherwise.

Always an excuse. Always someone else's fault.

A disability is what the SS folks accept as one. The fact that it is a complicated mess is simply indicative of it being a typical gov't run program.

If you cannot do the work you did in the past, we see if you are able to adjust to other work.

We consider your medical conditions and your age, education, past work experience and any transferable skills you may have. If you cannot adjust to other work, your claim will be approved. If you can adjust to other work, your claim will be denied.

There is a place for disability inn our system but it is DEFINITELY being abused.

All in all I think the article highlights some really important issues though the scope of the problem extends well beyond just disability.

When an unacceptable number of our population has become fat and stupid, it's no mystery why so many people are on disability.

No argument there, look who they put back in office after all....:doh

Our health care system is defunct...

Well, that's the liberal/progressive/socialist plan isn't it.

it's cheaper to buy junk food than real food thanks to subsidies...

Been to a store lately, none of the food is "cheap"....anymore.

and with unions disappearing and proposals to slash minimum wage people have to work longer hours for the privilege of remaining poor.

Minimum wage laws keep wages artificially low.

You call it the gravy train, I call it the necessary outcome of a corporate slavery mentality.

How cliche....Another corporate hater...

Just keep outsourcing the jobs and destroying worker rights, and more and more people will keep turning to the government tit.

Wait, wait....So we get rid of corporations, and all the jobs they create, and you're worried about "outsourcing", which btw, is caused primarily due to the over taxation, and burdensome regulation structure put in place by progressives that think that they are doing something noble by driving those jobs away?

But yeah... keep blaming the disenfranchised for being disenfranchised. In the land of America, ignorance is strength, and slavery is freedom.

Too bad the progressive utopia you dream of never works in practical application.

All I can say is that if taxpayers only knew...

I always marvel at this. It's something that a lot of conservatives keep doing. As if there is some magical group of people known as "taxpayers" who are the moral pillars of society, as opposed to, you know, everyone. I think it's more of that "47% of Americans don't pay income tax" statistic that they used to love to quote so much. The statistic that used kids, retirees, and veterans as part of that 47%. Every single person over the age of 12 in this country pays some taxes. Everyone is a taxpayer. Everyone has skin in the game.

Sounds like that insane drivel coming out of clowns like Nancy Pelosi when she said that welfare, and food stamps actually created economic activity....What a joke.

Even more disheartening is when the actually disabled can't get disability because of the paranoia. The process is distorted and corrupted so some are milking it and some are left helpless.

Sorry, no links. I am personally following the case of one of my "Cat Ladies" who is genuinely disabled and has been filing and re-filing applications for at least 2 years. But in San Francisco, I met a bunch of junkies who were on disability and were only disable because they were junkies.

Go figure.

It should have been left alone back in the 80's, when it was strengthened. It's a huge waste of money, often on people who are able to work, but would rather sit at home and collect bennies. It's hugely over-utilized and abused.

Where I live lawyers advertise all day for people trying to claim Disability, which hurts the people who're really unable to work.

that's what much of the knee jerk response to this misses, that people really need assistance and this type of fraud takes it away from them. But who cares, we get to fight over positions that have little to do with reality

Yeah, same here, and during the day on all the expected channels for the Springer watchers to absorb....
