The war in Iraq was all about Saddam trying to base his oil on the Euro instead of the US dollar. The WMD thing was a credible threat, but secondary.

WTF we're still doing in Afghanistan is beyond me. We did what we needed to do within the first year. We should have been out of there a long time ago.

Saddam had no WMD's and no ties to the planning of 9/11.

You should damn well be FIRED up about that.
Too bad for you that's not the topic of the thread.

This manner of death could be very hard for family members to deal with in a "how could this have happened?!" confusion.

The military has not given any explanation as to whether they were actually using a mortor, moving munitions, or any other explanation. so it is just speculative at best.

Well Jerry, see that's just it.....as I don't think about not wanting people to hit up a thread I have thrown Up. Nor am I concerned if you play nice or not. Course that's just you trying to think for another again.

Also Despite you not seeing a RIP tag.....I doubt you didn't comprehend what the Story was about.

Oh and Jerry.....as I see it. U are already game for me. Albeit an easy one.....it seems.

Marines identify seven who died in Nevada mortar blast.....

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - The U.S. military identified on Wednesday the seven Marines killed in an explosion at a Nevada munitions depot when a mortar round detonated prematurely in its launching tube during a live-fire training exercise.

The Monday night blast killed seven from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, including six Marines who served in Afghanistan, the Marines said in a statement. It injured eight other servicemembers at the Hawthorne Army Depot in western Nevada. The cause was under investigation.

The Marine Corps identified the victims as Lance Corporals David P. Fenn II, 20, Roger W. Muchnick Jr., 23, Joshua C. Taylor, 21, Mason J. Vanderwork, 21, and William T. Wild IV, 21, all of whom were mortarmen who had served in Afghanistan.

Corporal Aaron J. Ripperda, 26, was an anti-tank missileman who served in Afghanistan. Private First Class Joshua M. Martino, 19, served as a mortarman. All those killed were members of the 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.....snip~

The difference is that I am complaining about the fact that other services (Army and Air Force) get lavish chow halls where you are complaining about not getting TA yourself. Neither are worth the money IF other cuts have been made and we still need to cut more.

Well, I'll tell you this. As I said earlier, I have received multiple heroic awards. I do not have a problem calling these guys heroic. Training in the nature that ground side, combat arms guys train is dangerous stuff. You gotta have courage to do it.

Sure, but before you cut TA, there's a million other things to be cut. Perfect example, while in Afghan we built a $10Mil detention facility. 2 weeks after it completed, it was slated for demolition.

    It was never used.

That's the **** that needs to be stopped before we talk about chow halls and TA.

I only wish to maintain perspective.

So much righteous indignation that 7 are killed in a training accident.

What about the 4,000 in Iraq?

Will we learn from our mistakes?

Or will we send another 100,000 of our brave men and women into needless conflict to the shouts of "USA, USA" with "mission accomplished" banners greeting them?

We show homage for the lost by not declaring defeat at the first oppurtune moment. They were given a mission and they did one helluva job completing it.

You might have opposed the war, but don't denegrate the service of so many that served and died by calling them losers. They went to Iraq so your butt didn't have to. You should be kissing their feet.

And I, like many in this thread, have said that already.
