Explosion at Nevada Military Site May Have Killed "Several"......

Saddam had no WMD's and no ties to the planning of 9/11.
The war in Iraq was all about Saddam trying to base his oil on the Euro instead of the US dollar. The WMD thing was a credible threat, but secondary.

WTF we're still doing in Afghanistan is beyond me. We did what we needed to do within the first year. We should have been out of there a long time ago.

What fires me up isn't a dozen servicemen injured or killed in a training exercise.

What FIRES me up is thousands of our brave soldiers dying to fight an unjust war that was sold to us with lies.

Saddam had no WMD's and no ties to the planning of 9/11.

You should damn well be FIRED up about that.

Too bad for you that's not the topic of the thread.

This manner of death could be very hard for family members to deal with in a "how could this have happened?!" confusion.

The military has not given any explanation as to whether they were actually using a mortor, moving munitions, or any other explanation. so it is just speculative at best.

...and just a quick FYI: if you don't want people like me entering your thread with contrary opinions...use the RIP tag when you make the thread. I respect the RIP tag, it's like a funeral and gives your thread a certain level of decorum. People like me will either play nice or leave those threads alone, and disrespecting an RIP tag will get the offender infraction points.

When you don't use the RIP tag, opinions like mine are fair-game to post.

Well Jerry, see that's just it.....as I don't think about not wanting people to hit up a thread I have thrown Up. Nor am I concerned if you play nice or not. Course that's just you trying to think for another again.

Also Despite you not seeing a RIP tag.....I doubt you didn't comprehend what the Story was about.

Oh and Jerry.....as I see it. U are already game for me. Albeit an easy one.....it seems. ;)

Marines identify seven who died in Nevada mortar blast.....

2013-03-21T031005Z_2_CBRE92J1HU800_RTROPTP_2_USA-NEVADA-EXPLOSION.JPG

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - The U.S. military identified on Wednesday the seven Marines killed in an explosion at a Nevada munitions depot when a mortar round detonated prematurely in its launching tube during a live-fire training exercise.

The Monday night blast killed seven from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, including six Marines who served in Afghanistan, the Marines said in a statement. It injured eight other servicemembers at the Hawthorne Army Depot in western Nevada. The cause was under investigation.

The Marine Corps identified the victims as Lance Corporals David P. Fenn II, 20, Roger W. Muchnick Jr., 23, Joshua C. Taylor, 21, Mason J. Vanderwork, 21, and William T. Wild IV, 21, all of whom were mortarmen who had served in Afghanistan.

Corporal Aaron J. Ripperda, 26, was an anti-tank missileman who served in Afghanistan. Private First Class Joshua M. Martino, 19, served as a mortarman. All those killed were members of the 9th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.....snip~

You're complaining about lavish chow-halls, I'm complaining about a suspended TA program
The difference is that I am complaining about the fact that other services (Army and Air Force) get lavish chow halls where you are complaining about not getting TA yourself. Neither are worth the money IF other cuts have been made and we still need to cut more.
This was not enemy fire, this was not a combat mission...this was a training accident. I'm sorry but there's nothing heroic about a training accident. It's just a tragedy. Yes they were very honorable people and yes they deserve respect....but when you toss around 'hero' so generically is disrespects those who actually earned it.
Well, I'll tell you this. As I said earlier, I have received multiple heroic awards. I do not have a problem calling these guys heroic. Training in the nature that ground side, combat arms guys train is dangerous stuff. You gotta have courage to do it.

Sure, but before you cut TA, there's a million other things to be cut. Perfect example, while in Afghan we built a $10Mil detention facility. 2 weeks after it completed, it was slated for demolition.

It was never used.

That's the **** that needs to be stopped before we talk about chow halls and TA.

I only wish to maintain perspective.

So much righteous indignation that 7 are killed in a training accident.

What about the 4,000 in Iraq?

Will we learn from our mistakes?

Or will we send another 100,000 of our brave men and women into needless conflict to the shouts of "USA, USA" with "mission accomplished" banners greeting them?

We show homage for the lost by not declaring defeat at the first oppurtune moment. They were given a mission and they did one helluva job completing it.

You might have opposed the war, but don't denegrate the service of so many that served and died by calling them losers. They went to Iraq so your butt didn't have to. You should be kissing their feet.

And I, like many in this thread, have said that already.

They went because they volunteered for whatever reason, most likely to escape a dead-end existence in ****kicker, Back of Beyond. They went because they were young enough to still believe they were invulnerable, that others might get maimed of killed, but not them. Many went because it was their least worst option.
"A job, an education, travel and money too? Hold me back!"
As for "God wanting more heroes in heaven", it's positively vomit-inducing.

You have no clue as to the demographic makeup of our military. Underpriviledged youth are a minority in out armed forces. We don't restrict military service to the trailer park trash, as they do in the UK.

So what.....who cares what the reason they Volunteered for.

As for all not liking my comment about Heaven needing another Hero. Get over the ****. As for vomit inducing.....trust me. You would rather deal with that coming from me. Rather than anything else.....that I wouldn't hesitant to jump off over, and in less than a heartbeat.

Too bad this thread devolved into in-fighting. :(
