New York Mayor Wants to Ban Stores From Displaying Cigarettes......

Hypocrisy from the left at it's finest. The same low information folks who want to "hide" tobacco products, because if they are prominently displayed will influence behavior, in the same breath tell us, rap music, hollywood violence etc etc etc, have NOTHING to do with guns.

Commercial speech can be limited by the law

Yeah, well if you notice Bloomberg was making an exception to businesses that get over half of their profits from Cigarettes sales. So they would be exempt from doing this. But wasn't Bloomberg citing Health Reasons? Why make any exceptions if Bloomberg is standing on such a high and noble principle?

Also Bloomberg cant give other businesses advantages over others. Which would be taking place within the advertising. Also the Product can speak for it self and may not need any advertising in this case.

I don't really care about any of the issues you just mentioned

Just out of curiousity, does anyone here remember when cigarette commercials were banned? ( forgive me if this has been covered, did not read all pages)

They were banned a little before my time and I was wondering if any of the wiser folks here can recall what the public reaction to that was at the time? Did people make any type of statements that if they were to try that ban in their neck of the woods they would be hung from a tree? Was it just accepted?

I know this proposal is different, so please don't say I am comparing this to that - this is only me wondering what the people's reaction to the commercial ban was.

I'm just wondering why he's half assing it and not trying to completely ban smoking altogether. If he threatened people with jail time everyone would be too scared to smoke. Look how well it worked with marijuana.

Needs that Cigarette tax money that's why. ;)

Well his intelligence is questionable,

Why? Give specifics.

Just because you disagree with his politics you question his intelligence? Keep in mind, that logic cuts both ways, we might question your intelligence.

but I don't think there is even a debate about whether he is respected in politics.

He's the mayor of New York City, much loved despite some misguided notions about Big Gulps. New Yorkers joke about him, but no one complains when the snow is cleared in record time, crime is down, and subways run on time.

Think about Donald Trump, he has been incredibly successful and is largely respected in business, but he is viewed as a joke when he steps into the political arena. If success as a businessman was all that mattered, Trump might have been able to run in and even win the 2012 election.

You made an idiotic remark about "stupid pills".

I pointed out that Michael Bloomberg is obviously highly intelligent. As is Trump, despite his political missteps. So why bring up Trump's missteps to cover your own idiotic remarks about Mayor Bloomberg??

BTW - Bloomberg could buy Trump about 12 times over, he's the 13th wealthiest man in the world and mayor of New York.

A tyrant in totalitarian can give command directly without any explanation. He had his servent to carry out the command by force. That's dictatorship.

A tyrant in 'democracy" can give command with a reason. He has his followers to carry out the command with justification. That's "American style of liberty".

Would he ban pants and skirts next time because if you don't keep your leg warm, you may get arthritis that would increase health insurance fee.
