Steubenville High School football players found guilty of raping 16-year-old [W:245]

Re: Steubenville High School football players found guilty of raping 16-year-old girl

If she had given a handjob to a drunken male, would we be having this conversation?

Can you cite a case of anyone spontaneously giving handjobs while unconscious?

Re: Steubenville High School football players found guilty of raping 16-year-old girl

haha :)

l dont think the rate of female pedohiles are higher than men's

Does it matter how many there are? If you're going to advocate mutilating men's genitals, shouldn't you be an equal opportunity tormentor and do the same to women sex offenders?

and sharia rules save the men like you ....

Like me? What exactly is that supposed to mean? And you obviously know nothing of Sharia, since it has some of the harshest penalties for capital crimes; rape carries an automatic death sentence.

Re: Steubenville High School football players found guilty of raping 16-year-old girl

It does matter. A sexual offender assessment will determine which tier of registration they belong under. The following apply to juveniles in Ohio:

Tier I: 10 years
Tier II: 20 years
Tier III: Life

They can attempt to sweep the whole thing under the rug all they like but rape is a Tier III offense in Ohio, even for juveniles, and the law says they're looking at life as registered sex offenders. You can't outmaneuver sex offender registration requirements by sealing juvenile records in this State. They will never be able to hide the fact that they are sex offenders.

If you believe that then look up their names in a registered sex offender database 2-years from now and you will find nothing.

Then again I'm not familiar with Ohio criminal law, however I'm sure it's similar to Illinois.

If those rapist clowns moved out of state Ohio law/statutes don't apply to them.

Of course they will be branded any way you slice the cake because their names are all over the internet so they're screwed for life because the internet just doesn't go away. So I suppose the point of weather or not they will face a harsh life after their rapist actions is moot.

Re: Steubenville High School football players found guilty of raping 16-year-old girl

After my first post on this subject I expected to get hammered but I am encouraged at how many agree with me to some degree. The girl is not guilt free in this. I did notice that someone started a thread in the basement about me on this subject though, I'm just not in a basement mood tonight so I haven't looked.

She isn't guilty for getting raped. How about instead of telling women that they need to do X, Y, and Z to not get raped, we just tell men to not rape women?

I'm just going on what Ohio law says and I'm certain they'll be on the list in 2 years.

I think it does in most States. I took the liberty of checking on Illinois and a law passed in January of last year requires registered sex offenders who move from another State to register in Illinois within three days.

Agreed.

Re: Steubenville High School football players found guilty of raping 16-year-old girl

I think you are right that we need to present the reality of the situation and consequences of your actions as a part of being safe. Sure it is wrong to rape, but that does not make it stop existing. There are still rapists despite punishments and laws, and I think there will always be rapists. Girls should be aware that predators are out there and look for easy victims like those who like to get really drunk. had this girl kept her wits there is a good chance she would not have been raped.

There is a huge tree on a sharp turn where I grew up. Every 4 or 5 years it claims the lives of a bunch of high school students in the exact same way. They speed around the corner, hit the tree, and it seems all of them die. The tree is not malicious like a rapist and searching for easy victims, but it still keeps killing kids. before anyone says it cutting it down just makes the ravine behind it the killer. the reality is that the rest of the kids in school learn to slow the **** down when driving because of their friend's death. Just like that tree rapists are out there. hopefully this girl's story will inspire others to avoid stupid behavior. That is called taking responsibility for your own safety, and it is smarter to do that than to hope that rapists go away.

That was a really insightful post. :sun

I think we already make it pretty clear that rape is bad. The problem is that some people just don't care.

Agreed.

Were not talking about adults, we're talking about juveniles. If we were talking about adults I would agree.

Agreed! Although drinking teenagers don't usually think of things like that. Too abstract, or something.... :(

Women should be able to do or act however they choose, even stupidly, without the fear of molestation. This isn't the stone age in which some neanderthal bashes a woman over the head with a rock, hauls her back to his cave, and has his way with her while everyone else just shrugs their shoulders. That is not what a civilized society should do. These boys and their cohorts clearly had zero moral standards and some of the witnesses didn't even know what rape was. We shouldn't simply accept that rapists exist; we should be stamping them out altogether. In other words, you need some road signs, a guard rail, or even a wall for that hairpin of yours so people don't shrug their shoulders at another senseless tragedy.

She's "guilty" of a lot of things, but her culpability ends where other people's choices begin. Since the rape was exclusively two other people's choice, then she has zero culpability in that.

I've already pointed out these sex offender registration requirements apply to juveniles. The requirements for adults, with the exception of Tier III, are an additional 5 years for each tier. Do you need a link?

Re: Steubenville High School football players found guilty of raping 16-year-old girl

High school
Drunk dudes
Drunk Chick
Chick makes out with some of the guys
Girl refuses to leave with other girls
chick passes out

What happens next?

I believe the technical term is "rape". Which is the serious, violent felony committed here by several young men who believed they were above the law.

this is like saying we should eradicate murder: while the notion is something everyone would likely support in intellectual terms, you're always going to be stuck with things like rape and murder. The Best you can do is work to minimize them

Because if we want to minimize rape we not only need to make it understood by men that it's not acceptable but make women aware of what they need to do to keep themselves safe.

What I'm saying is that you can minimize it without restricting what women can/should wear, consume, or do. You can't attack the problem by telling women not to wear miniskirts or drink copious amounts of alcohol and, unfortunately, we have a justice system which favors the accused/guilty more than the victims and their families.

If you refuse to tell people how they can keep themselves safe than you are not helping them in making good choices to avoid situations like what happened to this young girl.

No one is trying to restrict what anyone does. We're just pointing out that people need to be aware of their surroundings and take basic steps to protect themselves. Like I do when I lock my car or home

Re: Steubenville High School football players found guilty of raping 16-year-old girl

That is a great opinion, but it doesn't work that way in reality. It is also never going to happen. laws are not there to stop people from breaking the law, they merely punish those that do. because of the rape this girl will spend the rest of her life with that memories of waking up to the reality she put herself in. She is probably blessed by her blackout so she won't have to remember actually being violated. No matter how much you punish the boys that experience will not ever go away. I would also imagine she spends a lot of time wishing she had done something different because that is an experience no one wants. You are hoping rapists just vanish, and i see no way to get that to happen or any indication it ever will.
This isn't the stone age in which some neanderthal bashes a woman over the head with a rock, hauls her back to his cave, and has his way with her while everyone else just shrugs their shoulders.

Nope, today they use drugs and immortalize the moment with digital pictures on their iphones.
That is not what a civilized society should do.

That is a nice opinion, but reality is not altered by your objections to it. people do those sorts of things. they are not going to stop.

These boys and their cohorts clearly had zero moral standards and some of the witnesses didn't even know what rape was.

they have different moral values, and of course they knew what rape was.
We shouldn't simply accept that rapists exist; we should be stamping them out altogether.

yeah, that is like trying to stamp out roaches. We do it, and we try to do our best at it, but there will always be roaches, so don't leave your food out on the table or you get roach crap in it. take some damned responsibility for yourself in a world that is not made on should be.

In other words, you need some road signs, a guard rail, or even a wall for that hairpin of yours so people don't shrug their shoulders at another senseless tragedy.

There are road signs, a lower speed limit, and a guard rail kills just as well. Despite all of those things people will still speed, especially kids. feel free to walk around pretending this is the good ship lollipop and everyone is going to do what you think they should do. You know what that will make you? An easy victim. I can give some sympathy to some people who act safe and still get hurt by someone else, but when you contribute to the ease of your own rape by drugging yourself I have a lot less sympathy for you. I still am for tossing the book at the rapist, but she screwed up and got hurt for it. Some people are lucky, they screw up and have a close call or no problem and go on with life. Some people get raped when they screw up. All the should bes in the world won't change the reality for those who get raped. but feel free to go find that one out for yourself. Some people don't learn without a good hard hit in life.

Re: Steubenville High School football players found guilty of raping 16-year-old girl

If you refuse to tell people how they can keep themselves safe than you are not helping them in making good choices to avoid situations like what happened to this young girl.

That is no different than simply handing over the streets of our cities to violent gangs and just telling tourists not to go there. This has largely happened in this country because no one has the guts to do what needs to be done. If we do as you suggest, and go that route with rape, then we'll be no better than India with hordes of rapists roaming the streets and raping women in broad daylight in public. You can't put yourself in a situation to be raped. There is no reasonable expectation of being raped as a result of x action. Its not like you can throw on a miniskirt, down a shot, and say "I have an 80% chance of being raped today." If it could be shown that rapists tend to target brunettes would you reccommend that all brunettes dye their hair?

You of course missed the entire point. I'll try to explain it so that even a retarded monkey on crack should be able to understand it... If the roles were reversed and a girl had put her hands down a drunken passed out boys pants and handled his junk, would we be having this conversation?
