Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.[W: 168]

Re: Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.

Right, but those are not the leaches Romney was talking about. He was talking about blacks, hispanics, college kids, women and everyone else he can insult to the applause of his core voting demographic.

Yes, the dog whistles are getting pretty abstract.

Re: Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.

Your number of 18.9% includes only individuals who receive major (defined how?) government assistance, monthly, and the data is from 2009.

My number of 49% includes anyone who lives in the same household as someone receiving any sort of government assistance, at any time in the first quarter of 2011.

The assumption is that other people who live in the household also depend on the income generated by the financial aid.

Either way, had Romeny used a number like 30% rather than 47%, would that have made it better in your eyes?

I would have like Mr. Romney to define the number and stand by it. If that's really what he believed, stand up for it. Don't just back out and say you miss spoke. You didn't miss speak, if you are throwing out a number a like that. You're crazy if you think people are going to believe that bs story, lol.

In regards to the numbers, you are making quite a few assumptions regarding people who receive benefits from the government. I pulled the 2009 info, because that's the information I thought Mr. Romney was referring to, but I'm happy to bump it up to more recent. What I find odd is your 2011 numbers, I would love a source. I looked on the census website and they don't have a full 2011 report available, so I'm not sure how you are coming to your conclusions.

Regardless, you are still generalizing. You can't possibly know how one person's government assistance, effects a household, nor in what capacity. All you can do is assume, which is fine here on a message board, but not what I want to hear from someone running for the President. Drawing assertions is something we all do, but standing in a room full of people who are donating to your campaign, and pulling a number out of thin air like that is just dumb. Then claiming you didn't mean and you just miss spoke is cowardly. I wouldn't want a President like that. Granted I didn't want President Obama either, but hey, that's what a two party system gets us.

Re: Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.

Afraid to actually give an answer?

You got one. I don't care that you do not like it.

Your concession is noted. The fact you cannot back up your claims with FACTS is noted.

Do you ever get tired of repeating the same thing over and over?

Re: Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.

That was a dodge, not an answer.

And I'll add that to the long list of stuff you don't care about, right after "the truth" and right before "learning stuff".

So much fail in so few words. When you grow up and move out on your own, you will learn that the purpose of others is not to serve you. Might as well start getting used to it now.

Re: Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.

I don't in any way dispute the fact that people with vote democrate for handout. My dispute is the estimation of how many. 47% is the number of people who don't pay income tax. There is a multitude of reasons people are exempt from paying income tax. Some of those reasons are legitimate, and deserving of that exemption, for instance, the military. Lumping those people in with those who manipulate the system so they don't have to work, is disrespectful and inacurate. It perpetuates an inaccurate view of the socioeconomic satus of half of the country. That's why I think this issue is still relevant. That miss representation is still being propgated by the GOP establishment.

No, what he said was

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it -- that that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. ... These are people who pay no income tax. ... [M]y job is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Hes referring to how democrats will always get about 47% of the vote (plus swing voters), and Republicans are never going to get these people. And the rheotric part is his opinion of why that is. The implication that all of them dont pay taxes would indeed be incorrect.

Good job, yet another post changing the subject and not addressing anything. Along with the fact that you couldn't be more wrong about my age or being on my own, lol. What else should I expect from someone that has an empty chair as his avatar. What kind of profound knowledge could I have possibly expected from someone that thought that Clint Eastwood talking to an empty chair was really a pivotal moment in american politics, lol.

You totally edited the transcript of the tape!! lol He said, "...And I mean, the president starts off with 48, 49, 48—he starts off with a huge number. These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax. So our message of low taxes doesn't connect...." Watch the video again, you can hear it extremely clearly, Mitt Romney's "47 Percent" Comments - YouTube

You can't just ignore the part you don't like, and pretend that's not what he said, lol. It makes you no better then the mainstream media picking and choosing what they want to report. The man said 47% pay no income tax, so a low taxes message is lost on them and they will vote for the President because of it.

Those are technically bad assumptions. You need to know how DSS and other things like social security count households. You do not have to be romantically involved or have children to be in a household. If you own a house and have a person living there and they are just a roommate, if they go for some form of public assistance they have to report you as being there. All of a sudden you become one of mitten's leaches because you helped someone out. So if you have ever helped out a poor friend and let them live with you while thet were on assistance then you two are a horrible leach despite the reality you probably paid all of your bills.

It is just that you might want to do some research for yourself instead of relying on places like breitbart. You do not have to go to MSNBC, you could easily go to the state DSS site and look at an application to find this information out. It is just as easy as going to breitbart, and you can learn for yourself instead of learning just what a bunch of media tools want you to know.

Audience member: For the last three years, all everybody's been told is, "Don't worry, we'll take care of you." How are you going to do it, in two months before the elections, to convince everybody you've got to take care of yourself?

Romney: There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it. So our message of low taxes doesn't connect. And he'll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich. I mean that's what they sell every four years. And so my job is not to worry about those people—I'll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives. What I have to do is convince the 5 to 10 percent in the center that are independents that are thoughtful, that look at voting one way or the other depending upon in some cases emotion, whether they like the guy or not, what it looks like. I mean, when you ask those people…we do all these polls—I find it amazing—we poll all these people, see where you stand on the polls, but 45 percent of the people will go with a Republican, and 48 or 4…

Its clear that hes talking about both concepts, the number of people who dont pay income taxes, which is 47%, true, and the number of people who will vote democrat no matter what, "48, 49, 48—he starts off with a huge number", also true. He even referes to the 5-10 percent in the middle who are not ideologically set.

Like I said, muddled rhetoric. Nothing new, but here we sit analyzing every word because hes a republican, and he said something youre not supposed to point out. HIs point is correct. People who are dependent on govt are going to vote for the guy who will keep giving them their fix, and thats easily near half of the country, and mostly liberals.

Re: Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.

Every candidate needs to learn that it doesn't matter who you think you're talking to, you need to be aware of what you say and how it sounds.
Romney should have known.
Although I say "every candidate", some candidates get a pass on any post-comment media assault.
e.g. Obama and his pre-Obamacare comment about how he can't get Single-Payer right away.

Re: Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.

Hows is that relevent to the topic?

It was recorded on his video. Romney was bragging about how none of the workers looked up from their work in the chinese factory.

He would like to see american workers receive that same type of treatment at work.

It illustrates how out of touch Romney is with the American workers who sweat and toil in America each day, while paying taxes. The 47%.

Re: Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.

You got one. I don't care that you do not like it.

Yes, you gave an answer, WITHOUT PROOF. Saying history is on my side, without a shred of evidence is not fact.

Do you ever get tired of repeating the same thing over and over?

When someone keeps repeating the same lie over and over again like you, no. It's quite amusing that everyone but you realizes that your comment is full of **** and you have no factual backing of it.

Re: Worker who taped Romney's 47% comment comes forward.

It seems the cons are most concerned about romney exposing his true feeling instead of being stealthy.

The damaging part of what Romney said was when he said his "job was not to worry about those people".
His point about Obama cultivating a segment of the population dependent on Government and that he, Romney, wouldn't likely be able to reach them, was correct.

Those people don't worry about Romney anymore.

It's called democracy, fyi.

There is no such speech in that video. Just the opposite, the story about the chinese factory was about how much better the US is because things are easier.

ONly damaging because he said something true. A candidate for President doesnt worry about getting oppsing parties votes, just a few percent of the middle plus their own base.

And you agree with this thinking that it is okay to teach people to be dependent upon government for everything? That might have worked back when we weren't facing a fiscal cliff, but this is now. What happens when there is not enough money to continue fostering dependence? You can't just tell them they're on their own now, and good luck. Not only is that unfair, but it is cruel. We abolished slavery once...do you expect to go back to that?

He could have made the same point work for him by explaining how Obama's (the Democrat) strategy of creating and maintaining dependency among the citizenry was cruel and cynical and he would work to break that cycle of dependency.

I watched it on the ed show all week and learned about it from the original source.
