NY judge halts Bloomberg ban on large sugary drinks

Allow businesses to sell cigs and alcohol but they get a misdemeanor, have to pay high percentage of profits in taxes, no advertising of any kind, and they must card users to make sure they have registered with the government as users to pay 5% extra income tax each year and/or community service. Users also get a yearly misdemeanor besides paying 5% extra income tax. Weed, users no jail time also and pay the same 5% extra income tax and get misdemeanor but sellers get 3 to 5 yr jail sentence. Hard drugs, users must pay total of 10% of income and/or community service, no jail time, sellers get automatic 7 yr jail time. Any user who turns in a dealer to police gets immediate small financial award and if dealer is convicted gets his or her yearly income tax/community service penalty for that year reimbursed. The tax revenue raised from all these penalties will go to subsidized, free rehab clinics that people can voluntarily go to if they want to beat their addictions as well to cover health care costs.

As far as the ban goes, no one was banned from buying as much soda as they wanted. The only thing that was banned was cups larger than 16oz. Nothing stopped anyone from buying two 16oz drinks

It still cost the people of NY a ton of money getting this up and running, the court time and now to take it down. I'd like to see Bloomberg have to personally pay for these sort idiocies.

So you do not like the idea of users serving no jail time, taxpayers not having to pay the bill of housing and feeding of the drug users like they do now, taxpayers instead receive money from users to cover health care costs, reduction of addicts through clinics that users have paid for, keeping the stigma of drugs being illegal for kids, and a smarter, cheaper strategy of catching sellers. Yes lucky we have the politicians and policies we have now.

They already do. Just like people who pay more for life insurance for jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. Insurance takes EVERYBODIES stupidty into account. Obese live generaly SHORTER lives. As do smokers. Pregenate women are taken into account. By your reasoning healthy single men shouldnt be paying for their expences via their insurance. Healthy people generally get a better rate than unhealthy people. Anybody that shops insurance could tell you that. Its the people who dont that havent a fricken clue. The whole arguement is bogus.

Yeah but a lot of us do not want to suffer the consequences of some jackasses "freedom" that effects our own freedom so we understand that is why free men and women create a government.

Our government all ready tries to influence personal behavior with the current income tax system. I have no problem with warning labels or even advertising blitz done and paid for by the government. But I don’t think government should be telling what they can or can’t eat or drink. That smacks too much of big brother. You know the Washington knows best what is good for you syndrome. As for health care, if government had stayed out of it, government would have to worry about it.

I think you ideal plan would do nothing more than create a huge black market. Alcohol was banned before, remember prohibition. It would be prohibition all over again with cokes, cigarettes, etc added. There is a black market for cigarettes all ready. It is the criminals who are reaping the profits from cigarettes now.

I can still get moonshine, weed and drugs like cocaine, opiates etc are illegal now and yet still flourish. Prostitution is illegal and it is still a thriving business.

Soon half our population would be behind bars, perhaps that would be good. In prison you could very easily deny them alcohol, tobacco, cokes, hamburgers, fries anything unhealthy and we would sure have the healthiest prison population in the world. Those on the outside would continue to do what they do and try to get these products.

You may be right about the black market. Will some people buy their beer illegally and chance say a 1 yr prison sentence if they think they can get around paying 5% income tax and 20% lower prices, some likely will. But the policies will still raise gov. revenue and lower overall demand than current policies because the majority will go legal and not risk prison time. Also my prison policy, which I won't go into detail on, would make prisons basically free to taxpayers. Basically replaces a lot of the civilian road workers, create disaster relief cleanup crews, etc.

At the rate I drink? Well no. Sweet tea doesn't go flat lol.

And that is hardly the point. It is an arbitrary limitation on people for to give them more nanny state coverage...and of course...it hurt people like business owners who charge for such things. Movie theaters get most of their money off concessions.

Do gooders like my 0% corporate tax rate, 0% capital gains on ipo, destroying the teachers union with a plan to make elite education and job training to the masses at pennies to the dollar of current policies. Yes let's do away with someone trying to come up with smarter public policy. Lets be ideocracy! I think we should give our marines and armd forces more "freedom". Look at all the do gooders with all the fitness and discipline requirements that restrict their freedom!

Have you not understood any of my points? Yes I know you likely want to disband the irs, the epa, child labor laws, go to gold standard or even eliminate nay currency. I realize you think government is evil and any laws that governm behavior is big government. Maybe in the future you'll get your wish of the individualistic super weak government. You can then see what your idea of "freedom" results in.
