(CNN) -- Saber-rattling rose Monday to new levels on the Korean peninsula, as Pyongyang officials "scrapped" the armistice credited for nearly 60 years of uneasy peace and then failed to answer a hotline phone."The Korean Armistice Agreement is to be scrapped completely just from today," said a spokesman for the North Korean military -- the Korean People's Army Supreme Command -- according to Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party.
North Korea cited the U.N. Security Council's unanimous passage last Thursday of tougher sanctions against Pyongyang for carrying out missile and nuclear tests.
"The collective sanction is precisely a declaration of war and an act of war against the DPRK," said the newspaper, using the initials of North Korea's formal name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

NK not answering...hmmmm....Is China behind this escalation? Is this just another in the long line of extortion tactics used by NK? What's going on here?

Different year, same North Korea. Even the Chinese seem to be getting tired of them.

I'd be REALLY surprised if the DPRK did anything particularly "froggy" right now and I suspect that the saber rattling is primarily geared for the internals.

Does this mean that we can drop a dirty nuke into downtown Pyongyang and say "hey, you declared war".

And/or to give a bit of support to their new best friend, Iran, by diverting some of the attention. Which, by the way, won't matter because the radicals in Israel are going to bomb Iran soon enough.

Yes, those damned JOOOOOS! Whatever happens, wherever it happens, it will always be their fault.:lamo

As a side note, Luther. If NK should go ape**** crazy and attack US mainland - it won't - they'd hit the West Coast. When I was working a lot with Az emergency management people, someone who knows things, told me the real threat to Arizona is California. He said that any major event in California such as a tsunami, major earthquake, or a nuke or two would send much of California east to Phoenix, Tucson and Las Vegas where millions of refugees would create a second crisis further inland. Imagine shopping for a loaf of bread when San Diego just showed up in your neighborhood.

I think it is time to let them know...you nuke us and we will nuke you.

It is difficult for you, not being able to read and comprehend, isn't it? Or perhaps you should have taken numbers theory in school. It is very obvious that you did not. The radicals of Israel ≠ all Jews. In fact, the radicals in Israel don't represent most Jews, from what I have read. Either you knew this and made a failed attempt to taunt or you have no grasp of what you pretend to know, or both.

Unfortunately Pima County is already Californicated....they'd all just hit Reid Park and sit around in a drum circle.

Seriously though, that would be a huge concern especially if all or most of the ports got wiped out. Any goods from the Pacific would have to come up from Mexico and the borders just aren't set up for that additional volume.

You need to premptively redefine "illegal immigrant" to include California refugees so you can shoot them before they cost you. At this point Californians and NYC residents are a bigger danger to our country than Mexicans are, and have fewer guns.

Dont hold back!

Tell us what you really think!:2razz:

No it is not time for that at all. Nuclear weapons shouldn't be used unless there is no other option...after we exhausted every other effort.

I hate it when people want to use those weapons...too many innocent people will die. Do you want that?

So if North Korea attempts to nuke South Korea or LA. Would we just completely destroy the whole country in response launching like 100 nukes?

I really wonder what we would do. Or would we plan to invade instead, While they threaten to launch another one?

But I believe the person you quoted was mentioning a worse case scenario. What is worse than having N.K. nuking Seoul or LA?

North Korea as a collective is kind of like the creepy little kid who has no friends. Kids like that tend to grow into creepy adults that do really bad things.

I wouldn't worry about it. Jr is just making himself out to be the tough guy so he doesn't appear weak in front of his own people.

Kim Jong Un is the kind of kid who, after receiving any kind of criticism, goes home and puts his hamster in the microwave.

What other options are you suggesting we use? They keep getting sanctioned, they get butthurt, they saber-rattle and threaten to send out nukes.

I firmly believe that the only reason they haven't yet is that they haven't made a proper ICBM that can do what they want it to do. I'm actually wanting to intervene before they really get to that point.

At this point, they have only themselves to blame. They talk tough, they talk tough, they talk tough...at some point you can't just talk the talk though. You have to walk the walk. I think a slight little detonation in a couple key areas would make them talk less.

Sometimes you have to be taught humility.

First of all..current nuclear weapons would not only endanger lives in North Korea, but also South Korea, China, and others.

We could easily use other tactics...even if we attempted diplomacy and that failed...the next option isn't dropping a nuclear bomb that would devastate more than just the elites in North Korea.

Fire Bombing Pyongyang would be a better option than a nuclear bomb.

Shouldn't this be a lesson in how sanctions don't ultimately do anything other than entrench the despots, and hurt the people of the country being punished?

The people are going to be hurt no matter what action happens. The only other option is to do nothing - and I definitely sure as hell don't like that one.

Nor do I, but we are down that road....What are tightening sanctions going to do when China is certainly not going to pay attention to them, and continue to supply and do business with NK?
